We are WAY past having to make a distinction based on race. Prez of the USA is half black. Can't top that position. Whether or not you voted for Obama, we no longer have to make a separate category for black achievers. They are equal, as are all races. If you have a particular context in which opportunities are not equal, I think that could be valid, but it needs to be specified.

I'm going to pick Ibn Batuta who put Marco Polo to same and traveled from Europe and West Africa, to Russia and India , to the Silk Road and the lands of the Golden Horde, , to SE Asia and China and left us a priceless record of what he saw in the 14th Century when Islam was the light of world civilization.

I think the context is in relation to contributions of Black people to American society, which many times is not given any exposure. It isn't about being racist, but about educating people about the contributions of Black people that aren't shown or given publicity. While it is commendable to not think of the race or color of said people, the reality is that there are thoughts, feelings and expectations, among other things, that are attached to race/color. With that said, here are some more: Robert S. Duncanson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crispus Attucks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
