Fair question......they are treating chickens better at KFC than we are treating our selves and when the next Insane dictatory rises up and murders 100 million or more this generation can accuse themselves of supporting such a crazy consept as helping those who can not help themselves........
When I was born, my father looked at me and thought, this child will grow up in a better world, with a brighter future. That was the last generation what held that view. I was a bit more circumspect when my own children were born, around the time of the Vietnam war. Now, I look at small children and I can only guess what kinds of horrors they might face in a near-apocalyptic future. Our civilization has turned the corner, and may be in free fall.
Yes, there will be a future, and yes, history in the future will be written in such a way that the past will seem intolerable. The occupants of the future will have grown up in it, and feel quite comfortable with it, because it will be all they know. If the future continues to lurch along as the recent past has, without any particularly pyrotechnic catastrophes, there will be gadgets and some form of nutrition and medical miracles, and when they get there, people will think the future is wonderful. Despite the huge explosion of knowledge, the concepts of honor and morality and wisdom will still limp along on 2,000-year-old models.
I saw 1950, and for nothing in the world would I trade places with a person who will see 2050.
