.................Britain got their hats handed to them as well.
What exactly do you teach, hopefully not history?

Try not to forget that Britain had been fighting WWII for over 2 years before Hitler declared war on the United States, had they had "their hats handed to them" I doubt they would have lasted that long.

Before the landings of Operation Torch, General Mark Clark was landed in Africa by submarine to clandestinely find out if the French there would join the allied effort against the Germans or if they would fight the coming American and British troops. The French were reserved and would not committ to switching back to the Allied side until they saw it was a major effort. They were afraid of being left high and dry and to face the Germans wrath. The result was hundreds of U.S., British and French casualties in a campaign that was mostly about the French the French "saving face".
However, it was not long before the French were working with the Allies. I wonder how the men in the U.S. Army over there thought about those bastards who killed their buddies just to prove a point.

Irishtom29: I agree with you! Especially about Verdun (and WW1 in general). Excepting the War Bwtween the States, we Americans have never had a war like the Europeans have. It makes a huge difference when it's fought on your own territory.

That was politics. And as von Clausewitz said war is politics by other means.

Ive seen it several times and I have been meaning to pick it up. Next time I will be sure to grab that first!

Never forget, France lost 99,000 men in less then 2 months fighting in May and June of 1940 ... entire units fought to the last man and on several occasions they did indeed delay the Germans. Although it's not about the French, I do know of one such occasion in 1940 where a single company of Belgian Army infantry on bicycles was able to delay an entire German panzer division until they could bring up sufficient infantry to dislodge the Belgians.

BTW: why wont the darn button get rid of the Italic script?

Yes. All jokes aside, it really wasn't the French army that lacked valor. It was the French political and military leadership.

Does this post come with a secret decoder ring? And, once decoded, will it say 'Be Sure To Drink Your Ovaltine'?
