In your opinion what were the greatest weapons of all time? Of course these weapons should be compared to other weapons in their time. I believe that some of the best weapons were the, katana, M1 Garand rifle, Tiger tank, and the British Longbow.
1. The crossbow. It allowed untrained peasants to actually be somewhat lethal. I believe the pope tried to ban them? lol.
2. The Tiger Tank is great if you are playing oh....an Avalon hill board game but it's real life value was questionable due to a number of features.
3. Guerra44 or essentially the AK47.
4. A-bomb
5. Perhaps the shotgun during trench warfare in WW1. You know it's effective when the german general complains they are "unfair".
PsyOps. They weren't always called that, but religions and the means of convincing masses of people to act in concert, even throughout generations, is the foundation of almost all advanced weaponry.
The invisible tank which is currently being developed.
GPS guided drone. They actually deployed these in Iraq but the robots turned their guns on "friendlies" and so they were recalled. I think there are still some there.
Trident Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine which carries the power
of 5000 bombs like the one used for Hiroshima
Of course the AC-130H Spectre gunship or the heavier armed AC-130U

Also the Barette m107 sniper rifle, 50 caliber and the stealth fighter jets such as the F-17 and F-22
The Krupp 88mm anti tank/anti aircraft gun ranks as one of the best.
I recently read that as the war went on the 88 decresed in effectiveness as an anti-tank weapon because of it's size and high profile (thus difficulty in hiding) and limited mobility. As a result Allied soldiers learned to spot situations where 88s were likely to be placed and acted accordingly. In the end the 75mm PAK 40, much lower and smaller and more mobile, probably did more damage.
Without doubt the Gladius Hispaniensis, the "Roman short sword".
It has slain more people than any other weapon.
Remember it remained in Roman inventories for nearly 1,000 years, and was largely responsible for conquering an empire and keeping it for that period of time.
All the modern weapons remain theories. Nuclear weapons and such in theory will slay more enemies, but it has yet to do so, (and hopefully never will). Where the Gladius is a "proven" performer.
Without doubt the Gladius Hispaniensis, the "Roman short sword".
A reasonable view.
Interesting that the sword changed from the tapered, armour piercing "Fulham" point to the straight sided "Pompei" point (which was undoubtedly cheaper to make) in the Ist Century as Rome's enemies went from armored Successor armies to Barbarians who were mostly unarmored.
Phasers and photon torpedoes, plus "planet busters"
Just wait a few years.
