You read some of these Rebel Websites and you'll come away convinced that the South really opposed slavery and it was those nasty Yankees that forced them into it. These people live in their own little dream world and nothing anybody can say will convince them otherwise. A lot of them are now in secessionist movements throughout the country.
I think the main argument was anti-federalist. I agree that slavery was a pretty ****-poor reason to rebel, but the principle was to fight against government intervention into what was deemed "property rights" at the time. Back then the federal government really didn't regulate or tax the citizenship of the people like they do today. That was one negative effect of the civil war IMO. It started a long history of expanding federal power that has continued exponentially. The focus on the states disappeared and the country became centralized on D.C. As one historian put it, "Before the civil war people would say "The United States are", after the war it was "The United States is". I believe it ended the original American expiriment and led to U.S. involvement in many unneccesary foriegn affairs, and excessive unconstitutional taxation. On the bright side though, we never would have defeated Hitler had the south succeeded to secede.

One explanation through the clip below... but the OP's clip shows a man who appears in all ways to be legitimately stating his cause. Maybe a little research about him is in order. Candid and accurate discussion about historical perspective--some of which is in this thread--adds to clarify many misconceptions taught in our socialist, racist schools.

Why do people debate questions like this when all they have to do today is Google it:

Black Confederates
Warning!!! The following one has some annoying music.
On Black Confederates

As far as The OP's question, "what do you make of it?" I don't know what to say. I grew up in Boston, home of the Massachusetts 54th regiment.
The world is a curious, complicated place and history reflects that.

Here's another possible explanation. A black man ridicules the klan while he speaks about black pride. I'm not sure this is appropriate in this day and age. What would happen if a white man in black face started talking about white pride?

No we wouldn't have defeated Hitler, but the Red Army would have.

That's debatable without D-day and the two front Nazi war, not to mention an uncontained Japan.

Bet a white man in a confederate warsuit saying the same about pride of the south while waving the Southern Cross would soon be wearing a pair of steel bracelets and anklets. The age old double standard.
