Default History of Vietnam for 7 year olds

We have 2 adopted girls from Vietnam who are 7 years old. They are showing some interest in their birth country and have heard older relatives speak about the Vietnam War. Any suggestions on books or films which might be suitable? I have also put our feelers in the adoption community with little results.

I'd probably give the same advise as I gave Purplesky...try the library. I also think 7 might be a little young to go into the war in depth. Vietnam has a very long history, not just the war.

I agree check the local library . There are several books on vietnam. Alot of it would be boring for a 7 years old tho.

Take it in context. They want to read about the history of their birth country, not the history of an American War, which is sure to have irrelevant american political references that are beyond their comprehension or interest. It's also not yet a topic in history that has an objective consensus by historians, it's too recent, so you have to be careful about certain biases or outright distortions.

The Vietnam War has it's sources in the french, WW2, colonial occupation, and going back further. So give them a good basic vietnam history book that includes the vietnam war. Sadly I can't advise further, particularly for a 7 year old.
