Since they are trying to make the internet kill bill a law I am wanting to get a short wave radio and have no idea what to look for when trying to buy one. I have found some from 40$ to 300$. So can anyone tell me what exactly I need to look for etc?

Reason: Moved from Entertainment Radio subforum. Shortwave radio is a hobby, not entertainment.
Yes I am possibly over reacting but what if the internet kill bill happens? Its the only place we get free news that is not as slanted. They can't control it like they can the tv news stations. I want one so if martial law is declared etc I can get some news somehow.

This radio is a nice starter radio that does a decent job al'round. I added a simple wire antenna to mine (run around the window frame) to capture more SW signal so I can listen to Radio Cuba & Radio China.
Theres a lot of stuff out thee. Try CC Radio, but their best still doesn't cut it when compared with some of the past offerings of Sony. I have an ICF 2010 and it's sensitivity and clarity is astounding. Sony has produced some startlingly good SW radios over the years, but some of their prices can be astronomical. Mine still sells on e-Bay, good condition but used, for ≈ $200. I paid, in about 1987, ≈ $380. They have some top of the line models that sold, in their day, for >$4000!

Here's an excellent overview, with the predictable recommendations for Sangean and Sony.:
As with all hobbies in the West, you can spend whatever you want. I did buy, sadly, a Grundig compact unit some years ago, when I traveled a lot, and it's performance is startlingly BAD! Placed side-by-side with my Sony, and even adding on a clip-on antenna to the Grundig, it simply does not bring in the exact same station as the Sony does. A clear, unwavering station on the Sony does not even register on that Grundig! Yikes!
So much for "Cherman" engineering superiority, huh?
Ok, so let me get this straight. When the Obama regime kills talk radio, the internet there will be not counter to the state control media except what we can pick up on shortwave radio? I wonder who we might expect to be broadcasting Radio Free America.
