For some reason this post reminds me of a movie:

"You learn Karate from book?"
"Yeah, and a few lessons at the Y"
"Wax on, wax off!"

Anyway, some people are wired to be better able to pick things up from looking at them on the page, while others do better with instruction. I learned how to read chords and tablature from a book, but that was only after I had been shown a few basic things.

My son Jake picked up a guitar six years ago, self taught but also took lessons after the first few months. Here is his latest you tube vid.

Guitarsmith for ps3 or Xbox...200$ includes nice electric guitar, strap, pick, cords. The "game" teaches you to tune, teaches you how to play. It's a real guitar, not one of those plastic monstrosities.

I got a guitar several years back because I always wanted to learn. I was able to teach myself some basic chords and now, I'll learn some songs when I have a chance. I'm not a virtuoso by any means, but I'm a pretty quick learner, and I now count guitar playing as one of my hobbies.

It's not as hard as I initially thought.

You mean "Rocksmith" right?

I did my review and comments on it in the video gaming forum:

Rocksmith

Bottom line - very very impressive and it makes learning fun. I highly recommend it. It's coming out for the PC in December. Also useful for experienced guitar players. It's $80 or $90 without the guitar (any electric or electric/acoustic guitar will work).

And, yes by the way, this game is the real thing. Real guitar, real playing. Do not confuse it in any way, shape, or form with previous rock/music games. No plastic guitar, no pushing buttons.

Interesting, as I don't do game consoles I think I'll look into the PC version

By the way, last I heard - PC version is delayed until later on in the year. Not sure why, game is getting rave reviews and selling well on the consoles as far as I can tell.
