The courses are popping up all over the country, getting quite popular.
I have only played a couple of times, but I think it is a hoot!

Disc Golf is awesome! I started playing this past fall and am totally hooked! I play every week! I have watched my scores drop from the 90's to the 50's in just six months of playing. I recommend getting some Vibram discs and go playing!

Isn't it more commonly referred to as Frolf?

My son and his wife are heavily into it and have a disc golf company (part time business) that books tournaments and sells gear. They usually host 3 or 4 tournaments a year most in the Dallas area. Never heard it referred to as frolf. Hippie golf maybe. LOL

Major thread bump here, but yes I have played disc golf and it's so much fun! Can't say that I'm the best at it, but I have gotten a lot better than when I first started. It takes some practice to throw the disc because it's not like throwing a regular frisby. There are so many benefits to disc golf, it's not even funny. It's great exercise and cheap! The courses are free and you can buy a disc for less than $10. It's also a lot less stressful than regular golf, lol! I hear fewer swear words exiting my mouth now that I've taken up disc golf compared to when I played regular golf, lol!

I think Minnesota was one of the earlier places this took off at and we were playing around the Minneapolis metro area on several courses back in the late 70's and early 80's. Visiited a friend in Atlanta once in the early 80's and played on a course there as well. We started off with the basic Whamo frisbee but evolved to using some of the high performance frisbees and even some of the specialized golf discs. The real nuts we would see on the courses would have up to a dozen different discs they carried in a satchel of some kind. Kinda tough to mix courses in public parks with unsuspecting bystanders tho.

I was in high school in the late 90's and the first time I had encountered disc golf was in gym class. We went out to a field by the school and the gym teacher had spray painted circles on the grass. And then we had to try to get the frisbee within the circle, lol. It was a crude version of disc golf (or frisbee golf, according to my gym teacher), but it was fun! Besides that experience though, I never really got into the sport until just a few years ago. There's a disc golf course at a local park that's been there for years and I never gave it a second thought until I started getting into the sport a few years ago.

Riverside Park, here in Victoria, Texas, has a frisbee golf course laid out, and every time I go by there, there are people playing it. It seems very popular here.

It's great fun. Last time I went it was a course with a decent size retention pond near one hole and I had a bad throw and in it went. There was a guy out there in the pond with full scuba gear on retrieving lost discs and I'm sure reselling them.....kind of risky with gators turning up just about anywhere in FL water.
