nice deal Mike.Well I ordered these targets SR-1.
The National Target Company: Official NRA Competiton Targets - High Power Rifle
I bought this rest.
Rock Front Shooting Rest
and I ordered this scope after looking at one.
RedHead Pursuit 18-36x50 Spotting Scopes
as soon as get 'em I'm going to start hitting the range often again.I saw on a gun forum some guy posted his target done at 100yds a 5 shot group the size of a quarter. He used a M1903a3 Springfield, which I have one and have always gotten at least a 2 inch group at a 100yds with it.Seeing his group size I'm inspired to do better with mine.I think a better rest, better targets and most of all practice time I'm going to try to decrease my groups to hopefully no more than a inch.

You got a good deal on the targets, spotting score and a rest. I'm due to replace my spotting scope too. The one I have right now is this cheap Tasco I bought 8 years ago for $100, but it's not that bad. I just need something smaller.
Does your M1903 Springfield have a scope or are you using open sights?
Here's the damage from my 3 high powered rifles yesterday at 200 yards. Top left is the .280 Remington, top right is the .308 Winchester, and bottom one is the M1A. Not bad considering it was pretty windy. Most of us shooters here in the Arizona desert go into hybernation during the summer months and we get a little rusty, so I could have done a little better. But since it's cooling off here in the desert of Arizona, I'll be spending a lot more time at the range for the next few months (until mid May)

Mike I almost exclusively shoot iron sights.I have but one rifle scoped,a Savage 7mmMag that came with a mediocre scope.I may get more scoped rifles in the future though.
These photos here are the last time I photoed my results,in fact it's the last time I shot this rifle due to me selling my house and finances.
I really think next time I'll bench myself instead of shooting prone, use the better rest and the SR1 targets to be under ideal conditions to see just how well I can do with it.The Hoppe's targets were hard for me to see at 100yds,I was shooting center mass, next time I will try 6 O'clock.I also just got a bunch of Greek M2 ball from the CMP,maybe different ammo might help also.
Mine is a 4 groove barrel, from what I read from threads about the '03 is that generally the 4 groove tends to be more accurate than a 2 groove barrel.I recently saw a post on the highroad where a guy with a 4 groove I think, had a very small grouping,I'm commited to dcreasing mine.True, that when you don't shoot on a regular basis you get rusty,I certainly am,time to get it together.
This is the guy I saw his groupings on

[quote=Magnum Mike;1566972]I spent a few hours yesterday at a shooting range east of Phoenix.
Toys from left to right, Ruger M77 target rifle in the .280 Remington, the Springfield M1A, Colt 1911 .45 ACP, and my Ruger M77 MK II target rifle in the .308 Winchester. My Smith & Wesson 686 ./357 magnum is also barely visible on the left, a portion of it is blocked by the Ruger's sling.
A real Feinstein/Bloomberg/Schumer nightmare ya' got there.

I've enjoyed target shooting since the 1950's when I was justakid. My favorite gun that I own now is a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 7 inch barrel. I always shoot magnums through it, never specials. I more often shoot my Ruger Single Six .22 for economy. My ccw gun is a Taurus .357 with a 2 inch barrel. I keep hollowpoint .38's in it for ccw in town, but when hiking, I like to use .357's in case a bear or mountain lion gets too familiar...lots more stopping power. I have fired an M-1 Garrand, and really enjoyed it.
I got an email not long ago with a little video of Ted Nugent doing an interview, and he said the second amendment is his ccw permit, and I totally agree with that. This country has violated the second amendment by restricting our right to keep and bear arms.
My ccw permit is legal according to the laws of the state I live in, and they too are in violation of the second amendment for making me get a permit for it.

I also like my Ruger Redhawk in the .44 magnum.
On the Second Amendment - Anti-gun politicians in this country think if they forced everyone to turn in their guns, or made it a law to require a license to own a gun, crime would be reduced. I can't imagine drug dealers and other hardcore criminals standing in line waiting to turn their guns or to get a license.

Hey guys, hows it going ?
O.K. I got my .38 a few weeks ago.
Fired it for the first time last weekend. (I had a group of experienced marksmen with me)
Being the first time I have ever fired a gun, I can say WOW, I have mixed emotions.
I am sure , just like anything new, I will get used to it.
It was louder than I expected (maybe thats what intimidated me). Did have recoil, but nothing I can't handle.
One concern I have is: When loading the gun, there were a few bullets that were very stiff going in. I removed them (pretty much had to pry them out) and put them aside. The rest went in smoothly.
Has anyone else experienced this type of thing and what advice can you give me about the situation?
Thanks to all.... from a novice.

I'm glad you enjoyed shooting your .38!
On the cartridges bit, there are many factors that would cause this, the primary reason is case dimensions, where the case wasn't sized correctly when it was loaded. Where they name brand ammo or where they reloads?
Dirty cylinders can also cause this and a case with a slightly bigger diameter or a small bulge in it that is not very visible will not chamber easily. Clean the cylinders in the revolver and see if you can chamber those you had trouble with.

Thanks Mike,
I am still a bit intimidated by the gun. I think it should be normal/healthy to have fear of it.
I didn't shoot it for a week after having it because my son (18), in my eyes, showed a little bit too much excitement when we first got it. I felt better letting some excitement wear off before breaking it out.
The gun is brand new. I really don't think it has dirty cylinders because the other cartridges slid right in. I am leaning towards the cartridges themselves.
I bought American Eagle cartridges for practicing. 3 or 4 were stiff, the rest slid right in and out. We just left the stiff ones aside.
How/what would be the best/safest way to dispose of the "stiff" ammo?
I am assuming I did the right thing with not trying to shoot the stiff ammo. My thoughts were that they would have a problem firing.
