Fishing in Japan
I'm very into fishing and one of the things I always wanted to do was check out fishing in Japan. I know the Japanese are pretty big into freshwater and saltwater fishing. I used to do research on the tackle and the fishing spots, their style of fishing is different and interesting. With that said, has anyone ever fished in Japan? Maybe you lived there or were visiting? If you have fished there, what was the experience like? Did you have a guide? Was it fresh or salt? Which species did you hook?
Thanks for the info.

I don't know about mainland Japan but my husband fished nearly every weekend when we lived in Okinawa. Caught tons of Tuna and Wahoo.

Cool, thanks. I'm trying to plan the perfect trip and also get a feel for the species over there. I'm gonna look up Wahoo.

Never fished in Japan myself but from fellow anglers community I understand that they do a lot of "jigging" for tuna. They also prefer to use spin-cast reels as oppose to bait-cast reels that we use predominately here in the U.S. Daiwa spin-cast is very popular with massive drag. Use spectra (modern day version of braided line, much thinner and stronger).
Here's a good link on Japanese tackles. Contact the author (KSong) who fish a lot all over the world, including Korea and Japan.
