Anybody out there in that area? Colorblind, you're not thinking about Antonio Carlos Jobim are you? While not necessarily intricate his music sure is quite beautiful.

Oh, I LOVE the ol' B-3!! Sure, a lot of synth's can 'try' to imitate the sound, but there really is nothing that can replace that vintage leslie.

Yeah Powersurge you're right there's nothing like that authentic sound ( my back however disagrees). Bandmates suspiciously disappear at breakdown time too, but it's still my first choice. I think some of the younger groups are picking up on it too. That will be nice, a fresh twist.

I'm an amateur guitar player, have played on stage a handful of times, mostly bass for lame tejano groups... I'd say I'm at best a competent rhythm guitarist.
Anyway, I have one complaint/observation... music stores. Why, oh why must the guys selling the gear try to make the buyer feel like they're buying from the next Stevie Ray Vaughn? and Why do guys go in there to show off their stuff, without any intention to ever buy anything? Seriously, I know enough about guitars to know it's hard to judge the sound with so much racket in the background. And even then, one pretty much knows by the price what to expect... other than checking all the frets and other parts, what else is there? Why do we need to play Van Halen solos either badly, or exactly as it sounds on the album, to know whether or not to buy the axe?
just felt like griping, I guess.

Personally, Guitar Center could be a cool place to get a few moments of jam time in, but it sems that since all their guitars are handled daily by hundreds of pros. wanna-be guitarists and even kids, many are already trashed by the time they sell. The only people who really take good care of any gear are the serious ones, the ones who appreciate them. Guitars dont stay in tune anymore, the fretboards look like theyve been through heck and back, and some pretty bad wear marks on the bodies, from peoples bracelets, belt buckles and whatever else they do to destroy things.
I used to go there a lot with the lead guitarist I jammed with from our former band, we could do some pretty cool stuff there together.

When I go to a store if I'm trying out gear, and I only do that if I'm really looking to buy I'll play parts of stuff, not sit there playing song after song or whatever because I'm there to check out the gear not blast away.
There was only one time when I sat for hours really ripping away and thats when I was shopping a new amp and knew I was about to drop $3000 so I bounced back between a Marshall TCM,a Marshall Mode 4 and Mesa Triple Rectifier because I wanted to hear the tone in all aspects, loud and soft, clean and distorted.
Most of the time I just play a guitar unplugged if I'm just checking it out and you can tell alot about a electric guitar that way,if it sounds good unplugged,it will probably sound good plugged in also.
Guitar center,I go there, but I support mom and pop stores when I can,go to a Guitar center in Fl then go to one in Arizona and they have the exact same gear.My blonde strat I got from Musiciansfriend online and it's turned out to be one of my better guitars.
When I was in the market for a Lespaul I scanned Ebay, and you can get good deals from there but for Lespauls, dropping that much money I wanted to try it first, and more and more scams are happening when it comes to LP's..fakes and misinfo.
I'll say one thing if anybody is in the market for a good Acoustic,my Alvarez FD60 sounds and plays great for it's cost...better than others in the price range and better than some upper end models.I like it so much I'm planning on getting another one in black on line, because everyone I have ever tried sounded good.Ibanez and Takamine acoustics are hit and miss.

I can finger pick, but I need alot more improvement on it.I have been thinking about dabbing into slide also, which I know nothing about that right now.
Nice gats Mike,I too like the Floyd Rose, though I don't use it as much as I use to but I want it there when I want it.The sunburst strat in the photo is the only one I had for years,it's a early 70's that I had a humberbucker and FR installed on it(think EVH).That one strat, along with the Marshall JCM 800 was my rig I did most of my gigging and practicing through the years.
It was a simple setup, the strat,Marshall, crybaby wah and a digital delay, that's it and it sounded great. But now as times have gotten better I have piled on the gear, now I'm looking to do a bunch of covers in a band so I went with the Mesa Boogie amp because it has a awesome clean and metal crunch but another channel is set up for a classic rock sound.I went midi with a TC Gmajor because now Im using more effects than before and with it I can program it to change a effect and change the amp channel at the same time with one foot click, instead of tap dancing over a bunch of stomp boxs.
Im also playing alot more acoustic than before,I love that green Alvarez FD60.It sounds and plays like it costs alot more than it does. But anyway, was moving my gear into another room yesterday and photoed it.I was just goofing off with a toy guitar I bought on the border of Mexico lol.
I figuire maybe 5 or 6 more guitars and I'll have enough lol!

I love your Les Paul Custom. What year is it? I had one just like it only in a Deep Red, made in '76. I'm not a very good guitar player, so I've given it up, just too analytical and not enough emotion and/or feel. However my future son-in-law plays in a signed heavy metal band and is an excellent guitarist. Amazing John,I bought it new in Austin this year so it's probably a 2007 or maybe 2006 LP.It sounds and plays incredible.
Your sons band, they sound tight and professional,I get into heavy metal though their style isn't really my cup of tea,the vocals aren't my desire no offense.Hmm,sounds like your son is influenced by Zakk Wylde at little with the pinch harmonics. It takes alot of energy to play like that though.
I like heavy sounds, like Metallica,Godsmack and such but prefere the vocals to be a little less screaming, but their style has a big following though, wish them well.

Keep on pickin and grinnin !
Any other Zeppelin fanatics out there? YOU BETCHA!!
I'm thinkin' MILLIONS of crazed fans!!! Paying thousands of dollars for the upcoming concert!!
I can barely play the radio, but, my dh is a professional musician, (bassist/acoustic guitar) playing in Branson, MO. Not his favorite kind of music, (He'd rather Rock n Roll all night, and party everyday!) but he's making a good living, using his God given talents, and doing what he loves! He plays a Peavey Cirrus 5 string and a Takemine acoustic (Limited Edition, 2000 model). He loves them both! AND, he DOES play "Stairway"!!! when he plays "out". (no Stairway in "Branson Brothers Show" !)The crowds go nuts!! They love it! Young and Old!!
15 years ago, when he was only getting $50. - $100. a gig, playing smokey bars down in Texas, he was tempted to give up music, and pursue his day job as a carpenter, exclusively. But, luckily for him, I am an understanding wife, who encouraged him to keep playing...(A MUST for a musician...a spouse that is supportive and NOT jealous, don'tcha think?!) So, for all you guys who are picking up your guitars again, ROCK ON! Practice makes perfect! And, who knows? You may end up actually getting "Famous"!!! At least to some degree! Keep on keepin' on!
Every great achievement was once impossible!

My future son-in-law writes all of their music and is slowly moving them toward more melodic music, and realizes that the heavy growling is only a fad and will be phased out eventually. Even the biggest metalcore band, Kill Switch Engage, is moving toward singing. I don't like the screaming myself, but I've learned to get past it and listen to their music.
You're right about him being influenced Zakk Wylde fan, along with John Petrucci and others. He takes alot of pride in his pinches. He doesn't play Gibsons I guess because of the smoother sounds they produce, which aren't very complimentary to thrash, but I'm sure he'd like one.
Do you have any music available for me to listen to?
