I have an Ottlite floor lamp with a foot switch that no longer works. After contacting the company, I find that the lamp, while still for sale, is no longer made and no parts are available. Their suggestion was to have it rewired. Is that worth it and is it difficult? I'm thinking someone on here must tinker with electronics and have an idea. Thanks if so.

Yes, it's fairly simple for someone with electrical skills. Some generic foot switch is probably available at an electric supply that would work, or a simple Amazon $10 foot switch. It could also be wired to be on all of the time, and buy a remote that plugs into the wall, then the lamp plugs into it. It's not likely that you will find a "fixit shop" any more, people tend to throw things out and buy a new one these days. Ottlites are not cheap, however (we have several) so it's worth the trouble of finding someone. Ask your friends and relatives, one of them probably knows someone that can do the work for you.
I can replace the foot switch if you're sure any old generic one will work with an Ottlite (which was not cheap). I know they have ballasts that are incompatible with any parts made for any other lamps on earth. But if I can buy another switch and switch it, I'm good. Thank you.

As long as the switch was wired before the ballast it shouldn't be a problem.
