I'm planning on collecting one-tenth ounce Krugerrands. Why? Being a cheerful pessimist about the US economy and future, it does mean that I can have easy 'barter' for goods - when everyone else is waving their worthless dollars, and worthless pieces of plastic - and not have to worry about wanting 'change' either. Also, Krugerrands are globally known and accepted as a standard unit of gold.
Whereas if you sit with a 1 ounce coin (roughly $1000 worth) its gonna be difficult to properly trade that ounce of gold for goods.
Of course, if you're just collecting for the heck of it - should the collapse come - then the fancy dates and editions of individual coins become irrelevent. All that matters in the end result, is the quantity of gold you have, in an easily understood and identifiable form. So one-tenth ounces, are good future currency. Paper and plastic 'money' comes and goes - but gold keeps its worth.

The ad I saw states "brilliant uncirculated TO fine condition". I'll bet they're all closer to fine than BU! The ad is obviously meant for people with no knowledge of coin collecting.

I've got all of the Silver Eagle series, plus a lot of silver dollars and other coins. I started collecting them about 1956! I haven't done it very much in recent years. Everything I want now is too expensive!

I became interested in coin collecting when I was a kid, I could easily find walking liberty halves, standing liberty quarters, buffalo nickles, mercury dimes and indian head pennys in circulation. Common date or worn examples of better date coins didn't carry much of a premium in the early 60s so people spent them. Like most collectors it wasn't about the money for me I just enjoyed collecting and filled the whitman books with every thing I could find.
After I was old enough to work I started collecting fractional currency and some better date stuff then quit for many years until the 90s when someone with enough knowledge and a good eye could cherry pick stuff to be slabbed and make a lot of money.
I've bought entire collections from people and made all the money back on a single coin.

Default Hope this helps

Hi there

First of all can I just say I believe there is no better time in history to be investing im gold. With the ridiculs money 'printing' which has occured in the last year, gold adjusting for inflation should be at $15,000 per ounce.

It is hugely under-valued which is why China is increasing its holdings and you now see LOADS of adverts on the TV saying they want your gold!!!

There is a fantastic oportunity to increase your wealth here but I stress dont take my, or anybody elses word for this, GET EDUCATED YOURSELF. I did and since my investment gold is up 30% and my stocks 150% but we are only 20% into the current gold cycle.

I say get educated on the matter(no guessing guys) then take action!!!

Then the best place to buy is from a ruputable dealer and take it home..This is SO IMPORTANT
