What is my gun's value?
I recently bought a Ruger 77/44 bolt action rifle. It is stainless and synthetic and in great condition. I payed $400 for it. How much would it normally go for?

Sounds about right. Might go cheaper on the used gun market.

Here is a site that gives quite a bit of info, "The Blue Book of Guns" is a good guide. It is expensive, but you can always go to a Borders and take a 'look' at it

Maybe it's just me, but I would consider this Ruger, in stainless and with a synthetic stock, more of a utility rifle and not much of a collectable. That's not to say it's not a useful and well-made rifle, just that it's usually the blued steel and walnut-stocked rifles (and shotguns) that are going up in value.
What drives value up is demand exceeding supply, demand is higher for the more traditionally beautiful rifles (Pre-64 Model 70 for example) that are discontinued, and then the value is tied strongly to condition. A rare caliber helps as well, for example a .35 Remington Model 70 is worth more than a 30-06 one, even though the '06 makes more "sense" in the Model 70 format.

New it would cost a lot more, I'm not sure about used prices but it's a good rifle and you got it for a good price.

My 09 Gun Digest lists the entire Rugger 77 line starting at around 800 bucks and going up from there. The 44 is not listed though. I'm assuming this is a used rifle? Sounds like you did OK and have a good shooter at any rate.......

How about a 1965 Sako FinnBear chambered in .30-06, Walnut stock inlaid with cherry, what appears to be custom engraving over the magazine well, Redfield 9X scope. Excellent condition.
Actually, nevermind. I'm never selling this rifle.
