I put my banana seat and ape hangers on my 10 speed! And then later...I put my 10 speed forks and front tire on my Schwinn! I rode some of the strangest stuff back in grade school.

You need to put a slick on the back of that new bike!

Alrighty then -- checked the serial number and mine was made Dec 14 1962 -- guess it hung around unwanted/unsold for 2 or so years because I got it new in either April 1964 or 65.

Here she is, rust and all :-) (including the license plate and a number of locks to which I've misplaced the combinations over the years)

Yes, bicycles have changed quite a bit from the '70s and earlier.

That looks pretty good for an unrestored original over 40 years old.
Kind of strange that it was unsold for 2 years but I'm glad you were able to find the build date. That is always good to know.

Thanks, Steve. A great reminder of bicycles from the '60s and '70s.

I bet those modifications made those bikes stand out!

I may, but I kind of like knobby tires. Easier to tell when they are worn out.

Great thread, y'all! Congrats on your new Stingray, Fleet! I've got a Schwinn LeTour and a Cannondale M500 out in the garage. I couldn't tell you the last time I rode the Schwinn and I only rode the Cannondale ONCE this past Summer. I'm ASHAMED!!!
