it's a hi-point c9 that has little knock-out pins. I didn't really want to mess with them often (if at all), if I didn't have to. fortunately, if something does get messed up while cleaning it, they come with a lifetime warranty and basck their stuff up well. so i've heard.

by the way...a nice shooter. shot a friend's glock 17 the same day. he and his son both shot the c9, and I think they are both considering getting one!

Get a can of Gumout carb cleaner, go outside where there is dirt. Take out the clip, pull back slide and set to open if it will. Spray the heck out of it and hold it at all angles as you do this. I can make the job do with about 1/4 of the can. When your satisfied let the gun sit a few minutes. Then spray with Remington gunoil to lubricate it. Takes less than 10 minutes. I have did this for years.
I don't recall where I heard it, either my time in the military or when I was prison guard, This is what I do and or don't do. I don't use carb cleaner. When most weapons get their metal finish, the parkerization, they are dipped in oil, when you use a carb cleaner it dries out the the oils that is inbeded during the finishing process. IF this is true or not I don't know. All I do and recommend is a good gun oil/ cleaner to maintain your weapons.

OF course it is your money invested into your guns, how you care for them is your business.

Wink Imho....

The only safe place and use for the old-fashioned high-solvency type brake cleaners is on such things as trigger assemblies, and even then you need to make sure there's no plastic stop pins etc. Or thread locker / sealant on the set screws.

I'm pretty sure Tetra Clean is A-OK, but Google them, go to their website and either call them or send 'em an e-mail. Tetra Clean has an excellent rep!

I drop most auto pistol parts into a 2lb coffee can of low odor kerosene, the type used to burn in kerosene heaters. Not that it's a better solvent, but it just doesn't stink up my gunshop! Then I brush each part, wipe them down or spray with a commercial type of degreaser/cleaner I get from LPS Corporation, and then apply, VERY SPARINGLY, a slight spray of Rem Oil or Tetra-Tech or Break Free lube or LPS No. 2. Again sparingly. You don't want to attract lint, dust, etc.

Aside from doing an advanced cleaning of a leaded or coppered-up barrel, I can clean an auto pistol from stem to stern in about 8 min.

Good shooting! Hey Tin: my new SIG 556 will be here in about 10 days! Kid in a candy store, I tell yah! (check it out @ sigarms.com if I recall right.).

If you're going to spray it down I recommend brake cleaner instead of carb cleaner, it won't harm the polymer (I have a P345) and it evaporates with no residue within moments.

If you use carb cleaner you really need to competely take it down as that will remove all oil from the enter parts with springs etc. I always use bore cleaner and a copper gun brush on the barrel parts to clean podwer residue. Also very once in a while use a copper bore clean to clean the bore. I like Remlube on the slide but just a drop each and a silcone rags to wipe it down.Over oiling is one of teh best ways to get crude to gum up the action.
