Here in Montana the general season begins on the third saturday of May and runs through November 30.
Many of the larger rivers and most lakes are open to fishing all year with many minor restrictions such as no barbs or live bait etc.
FISH WORSHIP !, IS IT WRONG ?

Who is doing the fishing in this picture ?

I'm going to be surf-fishing near Galvaston for a couple days around March 16. I've surf fished in Florida before...any advice for that area?

Just bringing some very basic gear down, nothing fancy. Looking for something decent to eat that might be a good catch that time of year. Any advice appreciated.

Is that a real picture or photo-shop lol. I wonder what kind of shark that is because if the size is right it doesn't look like any of the Sharks that can reach that sort of size (15ft or so) ie) Tiger, great white, hammerhead...

From what I have been able to find out about it is that it was taken from a coast guard helicopter and is very real. I plucked it off of some kayaking forum. It has been floating all over those sites for several years now. Who really knows the truth though ? ! Notice that the kayaker is looking back at the shark. If it was photo shopped they did a fairly good job on it.

I'm not an expert but given the angle etc. it does make the shark look larger...it could just be a large Mako at 12ft or so length.

Love fishin here in Washington State. I'm originally from the midwest, so bass and walleye fishing was the usual back home. The occasional Pike would be caught, and of course the catfish.

Ever since moving here to Washington, it has been Salmon and Steelhead, with steelies being my favorite. Caught 7 so far this year. The largest about a 16 pound hatchery buck.

with the famed Columbia river nearby you aren't focusing on walleye?

I'd be out there as much as I could.

I try and I try but can't seem to catch walleye,
I fish till I'm dead and can't land a steelhead.
When I do get lucky, it's just a rubber ducky,
That escaped from some river fair.
I try real hard but end up pulling out my hair
I float fish and shore fish from ground that is mucky,
all I catch are fish that taste yucky.
One of these days I'll get off my ass,
and go back to my spot where I know I'll catch bass.

Hey I just made that up right on the spot !
I must be a poet and my next fish will show it,
It will be a Longfellow !

Do I like to fish? Is water wet? Look under my name.

In my younger days I was also an outdoor writer. I wrote on fishing for several localized state magazines as well as national ones like Outdoor Life and wrote about fishing. I also fished semi pro in the B.A.S.S. circut but never placed in the money. I did however place high enough quite a few times to win prizes but never money.

Then what did I do? Moved to the desert for a job and there was no fishing to be had unless I was in the mood to drive for hours and hours. So here I am now in South Texas where there is water everywhere. In fact I have my own personal dock and even if I am not wetting a line I am sitting on the edge with my feet in the water. I can just sit for hours doing nothing but drowning in the sounds the lake has to offer.

If you sit still long enough you can witness big Hawg Bass busting the surface to put some small minnow out of his misery. You can watch the Great White Herrons and Egrets walking the shallows without even making a wake as they poke their feet into the water quietly only to jamb that thick beek into an unsuspecting bait fish.

I will shut the hell up here before I end up writing an article.

Here is a small abbreviated version of what I used to write that I posted right on this forum a couple months ago: Post #1

Please don't shut the hell up ! We want to hear more. I love fish stories and I don't even care care if they're made up !
This one is true I assure you.

I was on a two week backpacking camping trip in Yosemite up in Little Yosemite Valley only to find that the entire campsite area was way over crowded with 70 boy scouts. It was hard to find a decent spot but we managed. Some of the scouts were fishing for fun as they had tons of freeze dried dinners and actually gave us a lot of extra food before they left to go home the next day. I was talking to a few and decided to show off a bit. I took a small black fish hook and tied it to a seven foot long piece of line. The other end of the line went onto a stick. I found a spot to hide behind a rock and flicked the bare hook out on to the fast moving ice cold Merced river. After about 5 or 6 "casts" I got a trout to go for it. It took a few tries but I caught a small trout without bait on a bare hook and all the boy scouts bowed down at once and proclaimed me to be the fish god !
Well the part about the boy scouts bowing down and all that was BS but the rest was true. We did however get to stay up there hiking and camping for a whole month thanks the scouts laying all the extra food on us. We brought only rice and dried soup packets for a two week trip. We also rescued a guy who was lost off trail and had a major hassle with problem bears on that trip.
