Poker: anyone else sick of how it seems to be nothing but "texas hold em" trend whores now
Well that and how everything has to be this "tournament" and "professionally run" game Get a life.....whatever happened to simply getting a bunch of guys together and doing a dealer's choice night of poker with nothing but a case of beer and poker chips (sometimes even - gasp - cheap plastic r/w/b ones that didn't even come in a case!)? 5 card draw, 7 card stud - give me those old stand-bys most days over the trendy stuff.
Nothing against texas hold em per se; offhand I can personally take or leave the game. But I am sick of people who think that's the ONLY game worth playing and insist on "tournaments" (I thought tournaments were for golf and tennis, silly me).
Kind of reminds me of how so many kids now are in "organized leagues" vs just going out back and having a pick up game. I guess they're growing up now and this is the result-?

I like hold em but whenever I used to hit a casino it was always for blackjack. The issue is that when people see it on tv,they see a first prize for $12 million and the 9th place guy at the table might get a million too. The other thing is that alot of amateurs have won for a bunch of years which means people think the next winner could be them (like winning the lottery)because anything is possible. As for backyard or play ground ball; kids are much lazier nowadays and more inclined to play video games then sports.

I personally can't stand texas hold'em, for mainly the reasons you listed. The thing is, I make most of my money playing hold'em because everyone thinks it's a game of luck and any two cards can get the job done. I literally took a man's "rent money" off him at a casino.
I like to play razz or stud when I can find a good live game, but mostly that means playing HORSE. I've gotten pretty good at all the different "varieties" by playing HORSE so I can't complain.

I guess I'm more of a dinosaur than I thought. I have no idea what "razz" or "horse" is and possible trip to vegas aside (well down the list of desired vacation ideas), I have no interest in ever setting foot in a casino.
Honestly, doesn't anyone just get together at someone's house and play dealer's choice any more?

The problem is that now days, "dealers choice" has taken on a whooole new meaning!!! lmao!
Just Joking! But, seriously, I'm not that old and I used to like to play 7 card stud...with one eyed jacks and all that jazz thrown in for fun!! When I ask any friends about it now, you'd think I'd spoken Japanese to them!
Poker is what my Uncles used to play at family re-unions, when I was little, and all I was allowed to do is stack/count their money! Little did they know I was paying more attention to the game! My mom and her sisters still enjoy playing straight poker, Michigan poker and other variances, more-so for entertainment tho and not money.

Poker is constantly evolving. If you don't like the current popular version of poker then don't play it.
The title of your post is really lame, --- "Whores" ?

You're absolutely correct. Nothing like the good ol' Saturday night poker game in a buddies garage with beer, cigars, a pot of chile and some snacks.
I think poker on television is an absolute joke. What even compounds it are these weenies who WEAR SUNGLASSES while they play because they can't even man-up a legitimate poker face.
I'd rather watch the watch paint dry than give any support to the joke that poker has become.

I tried joining a "casual poker night" advertised on craigslist, and the guy in charge turned out to be REALLY uptight, to the point where he didn't even allow beer. Not to mention, they made me feel a little uncomfortable about being the only woman there (just being macho, challenging/belittling me, etc). Maybe I'll try again sometime, but for now I'll stick with card rooms and casinos. It would be nice to play a good old-fashioned garage game... especially one where you can smoke, which seems to be a rarity these days. Remember those old "Roseanne" episodes where Dan & his buddies got together, and sat around the kitchen table drinking, playing cards and smoking cigars? I'd love to find a co-ed version of that, LOL.
As for watching poker on television, I agree - it couldn't be more boring. I've been playing hold 'em for many (15+) years, even played in the Ladies WSOP tournament, but I have no interest in watching people on TV. And yeah, sunglasses at a game is lame. Might be a good idea for me, though, even with my stoic poker face... a guy once told me that my eyes twinkle when I have a good hand, which is something I can't control!

Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining or feeling superior.
Takes all kinds.
"Whores"? Get a grip, dude. Go play some video games.
