Whenever I see a fax machine at the office in full swing, It reminds me of a bird feeder....everyone grabbing and picking and dropping...a real feeding frenzy!

I was beginning to suspect the Administrator/s had banned me from this forum completely. Thanks for the message.
BTW, birds resolve their differences immediately and carry no grudge. Could some species learn something good from this?

Default Please be considrate

To those interested in feeding birds. Please be considerate of your neighbors when doing so. There are 2 different people in my town who love to feed birds. They are both anti-social people...completely inconsiderate of their neighbors in all ways. One of the things they do to tick off their neighbors is to throw out massive quantities of bird food, food scraps and bread. Flocks of birds (mostly crows), come into the area and crap on everything their neighbors own such as, their cars, houses, yard furniture, etc. Ironically, these people also have many cats, all of whom do not use litterboxes, but rather their neighbors' yards.

Please be responsible when feeding birds. I personally do not see anything wrong with hummingbird feeders and a couple of bird feeders, but feeding the larger birds isn't something that should be done without considering people around you as well. Something that many do not understand as well, is that wild birds quite often carry diseases. You could be inviting something pretty awful into your neighborhood. Don't get me wrong, we have a pond, with a waterfall that the smaller birds love to bathe and drink in. We grow plants that provide seeds for small wild birds. But we do invite flocks of birds into our neighborhood that will destroy other people's property, either.

Default Anti-social?

Beachme,
From your post, it sounds like you are just as "anti-social" as your neighbor/s are. That is not bad because "anti-socialism" has been evolving in our country for the past 3 decades. It is not unusual for not knowing even your neighbor's name when they live only 10 or 20 feet away from you.

By your post, neither you or your neighbor knows very much about bird habits, feeding habits, or even bird species. So I suggest the following. Meet your neighbor and start talking about birds. Do some research. I think pretty soon you will both be able to choose the species of birds to feed that are not a nuisance to you or your neighbor and both of you can live happily ever after, including the birds.
Cheers,
Harry "Gipper" Morris

LOL...... how very interesting of you to make such an observation. In fact, I DO know these neighbors...very well in fact. We have helped them out many times over the past 10 and 12 years. Both of these people have a complete disregard for their neighbors in all aspects. Please understand this, I have many neighbors who DO feed birds and have various bird feeders on their property.....they are wonderful people. Please don't be so insulting....jeez, if I didn't know better.....I'd think you were one of my BAD neighbors!

On these "boards", one can never tell whether or not they might be neighbors. I could have guessed that you would have been insulted by my remarks, but that was not my intention. I don't care to have crows in my yard any more than you do. But I make sure I don't invite them. You and your neighbor could do the same by avoiding putting out the food that attracts them, ie, bread, crackers, anything resembling "road-kill", and the like.

If these suggestions still insult you, I'm afraid there's nothing more I can offer as a suggestion. I mean, why did you even bother to post your original complaint?
Cheers,
Harry "Gipper" Morris

How could I NOT be insulted by your post? You made the assumption, outright and in those words) that it sounds as if I am as anti-social as my neighbor/s are. You made the assumption that I know nothing about bird habits, bird feeding and bird species....again, in YOUR words. Admittedly, I am not a bird expert....however, I do know the difference between robins, rufees, chickadees, crows, swallows, starlings, bluejays, hummingbirds, seagulls and pigeons. I also know that tossing out chunks of bread, cheetoes, globs of canned corn, etc., has a tendency to attract undesirable birds. The very worst of these neighbors doesn't bother to provide a water source for these birds, lives in a trailer park next door, does not own her own car, yet throws this stuff around everyone elses cars...the birds crap on everything and drop the food scraps on those people's personal property and vehicles. That trailer park adjoins 3 of us who own our own property and DO have water sources for birds. We are flocked, on a daily basis, with mainly, pigeons and crows, who harrass the smaller birds who seek sanctuary on our property. So? Before you jump to conclusions about me being antisocial, please think about "worst case scenarios". Do I dispute that this particular person knows nothing about what she's inviting? No. I do not. In her case, she doesn't give a darn....she's simply doing it because she's chased everyone else away and they are her only friends.....and they do exactly what she wants them to do....annoy the crap out of the neighbors. This particular person is simply a sociopath......living on disability checks from month to month, irritating anyone she possibly can. It's how she gets her pleasure. The other person I'm speaking of.....is simply ignorant.

As for me..... I grow lots of flowering bushes and flowers that provide nectar and seeds for small birds, as well as maintaining a pond with a small waterfall in the center (for neighborhood cat protection) that the smaller birds love to bathe in, as well as providing hummingbird feeders....hanging from my canopy of trees in my front yard. Anti-social? No.... in fact, I am quite sociable. For cryin out loud, we are constantly helping out our neighbors and have always been referred to, by nearly everyone who KNOWS us as really GOOD people....'"and they have the NICEST kids TOO!"'

I'm sorry, I know this sounds like I'm on a soap box, but you can't possibly imagine how frustrating it is for those of us who put up with the really BAD neighbors.....when some of try to be really GOOD and considerate neighbors.

Beachme,
I can certainly sense your frustration over your neighbor's birds, ie, pigeons and crows, leaving their undesirable mark on your property. I still think you have two problems to deal with. One, is the inability of you and your neighbor to communicate with each other. The second issue is the resultant complaint of pigeons and crows leaving their mark on you territory. You still need to work on the first issue.

As for the second issue, I can suggest that where pigeons go, so do crows. Crows love to feed on pigeons, especially their newly born offspring. Get rid of the pigeons, so goes the crows. This is worth thinking about and leads me to a question. Do the pigeons and crows use your pond and waterfall to bath in?
Cheers,
Harry "Gipper" Morris
