Default Knitting a static free baby blanket

I am thinking of knitting a baby blanket for a friend who lives in the Northeast and I do not want to end up with a blanket which cannot be used esp. in the winter because of static. Can anyone suggest any good yarn that I can use?

Wool? I don't know what others have used, but my mom made one for our son and we've never had a horrible problem with static (it's a huge blanket too). You could make one out of cotton I suppose. Never had any static problems with the scarves I've made, and one is mohair too.

Have you thought of asking someone at a knitting store? They could help you find a more specific type of wool blend.

Will ask at the store. I have made a few wool sweaters and they get very staticky(if it is a word at all !) in the winter.
