Need ideas for craft project using broken pieces of china plates
Need ideas on how to incorporate pieces of 4 broken dinner plates into a single craft project. Just discovered that 4 of my dearest Spode china dinner plates broke during moving--the only item, too! This lovely and expensive fine china (floral pattern) has been in my family for a couple of generations and have wonderful memories attached to them so I can't throw them away--such a sentimental sapp....

Set them in cement in some sort of pattern - tabletop, stepping stones (don't know if the china would hold up).

Use them to make a mosaic picture frame and put a family photo in it.

Get some other plates that would compliment and a clay pot or saucer. You can decorate the outside of the pot or inside the saucer. Go on line and find the site for how to make a mosaic piece. I did this and it was messy and you have to be careful with the grout. Wear a mask.

Sorry about your china. One way to reuse broken china is to make a mosaic tray using vintage silverplate trays etc as a base. You can find silverplate at GW and SA pretty reasonable. Theres all kinda of possibilities. Just treat the pieces like tile and then grout your finished project. If you did this you could use the tray with your other dishes.
Heres a few ideas.
Use a single broken plate like a puzzle on one round silverplate tray.
Maybe attach a compote or a upside down goblet to make a footed cake plate.
Use several plates for a collage on one of those big rectangular trays.

Hadn't thought of a tray. Thanks for the suggestion. But why silverplate in particular?

No reason. I just think silver kinda goes with old china. I suppose you could use wood or whatever if you could find the right piece. But I think the silverplate trays are kinda made for this cause they have a recessed flat round space in the middle to put the pieces on and a nice decorative silver rim to frame your pieces when your finished. I cant find a pic. If you could see a finished one you would see what I mean.

Make a statue. OK, it'll probably wind up looking like something from a Salvador Dali painting, but what can you expect from a statue made of pieces of broken china?
