I hope the price of ammo goes down too. That price has been cramping my style! I'll go to the local gun show at the end of August and find out.

I'm a regular at ar15.com and I see this as well. The price of stripped lowers peaked locally at $300. There were a few retailers and manufacturers that didn't price gouge and even had sales going on during the frenzied buying. I've made mental notes of who did what. For example, Essential Arms only raised prices when the cost of aluminum went up. Their stripped lowers went up from $110 each to $115 each.
Now if a Rock River can catch up with their orders, I'd like to get my 6.8 SPC upper in before the 1 year anniversary of ordering it.

FWIW.
You have my sympathy on that issue .
There are California legal versions of AR Carbines , and other civilian guns that look like Service guns from various countries.
I don't live in California , so I don't claim to know the details of the laws there.
And I am hoping to keep politics out of the thread.

Prices still haven't dropped here in UT. I haven't seen an AR under $1400.00 since the middle of last year.

Unfortunately, the rules change all the time and drives the gun dealers crazy. And, because the rules are such a joke some dealers will give you one opinion and some another. Some dealers do not want to get fined so they are very conservative on what they sell.
The Cali version of the AR has a fixed clip. That ruins the advantage of changing clips easily.
I have thought of putting my own gun together but I would probably be in violation of so many laws.

Look up California Bullet Button on the internet. There are a lot of links about it. I believe the correct term is magazine, not clip, though many folks use the terms interchangeably. "Clips," by definition, can not be fixed. (This link explains it pretty well: Firearms, ammo, weapons, gear reviews, 2nd Amendment issues, etc...: Clip vs. Magazine: A Lesson in Firearm Terminology ).
An AR type rifle with a bullet button can have the magazine replaced in a matter of seconds, but does require a "tool" to do so, thereby making the magazine "non-removable" according to California law.
