Can I shoot mini-marshmallows 50 feet with a BB gun?
I know its a weird question but please try to help me out here.
I have a problem cat that is beating up my cats in my yard and I have to get him to stop...and NO, I don't want to poison or kill him!!
There are lots of raccoons and skunks and possums around here so setting a trap to catch him would also be difficult. A real marshmallow gun is way too big to carry around my neighborhood. So would a small BB gun be able to shoot marshmallows about 56-60 feet? Has anyone tried it? I don't want to spend $50 for nothing! Is there anything else that I can use (that won't injure him) if marshmallows are too light?..maybe small bread pellets??
If there is a different gun that would work better please let me know.

You're going to cram a marshmallow into a .177-sized barrel, and expect it not only to come out but fly 50 feet with the accuracy to strike a cat? You're not going to 'run off' this cat by whacking it in the head with a marshmallow anyway. But if you insist on hitting him with something, go get a cheap airsoft gun. They shoot plastic pellets, and the cheap ones shoot it slow enough to not hurt anything.

You know there is a thing called a Marshmallow Shooter. No lie, it exists and I even know the person that invented it. You should be able to find it online. The Marshmallow Shooters come in all different sizes. My kid has a small one that uses the minin marshmallows. However, I don't see how shooting a marshmallow at a cat is going to scare it off. Why don't you try a water gun instead. Probably a lot more effective.

Forget the marshmallows. I have serious, serious doubts that a $50 BB gun could possibly be lethal to a cat at 50-60 feet. If you are worried about hitting the cat in the eye then only take broadside shots and shoot for the middle of the thigh. Try hanging a piece of cardboard at the approximate distance you think your shots will be to (i) dial in your elevation and (ii) test lethality. If the BB will not penetrate cardboard at 50 feet it will not penetrate a cat either (even if it does penetrate cardboard that doesn't necessarily mean it will penetrate a cat).
Also, you can probably find plastic BB's that will chamber in any BB gun. They will be lighter and probably travel faster, but they will not have the mass necessary to break skin and penetrate tissue.

There are air rifles on the market capable of doing what you're talking about. Look at the Air Force brand, for example.

On the other hand, it is super easy to make a marshmallow launcher out of small pvc pipe. But it won't shoot 60 feet either, nor will it make a cat move out of an area.

But if the cat has a sweet tooth it will like it.

We have a marshmallow shooter. It's great. But it won't do anything for a cat problem. I second the airsoft gun. I've used them to get rid of bunnies...won't hurt them, but it will definitely get their attention.
