Default Does anyone crochet?

I know just a couple of stitches that my mom taught me when I was little, nothing spectacular.

I could make and afghan, a scarf, whatever.

I am gonna sit here and make a few scrubbies for the face.

You just put the facial cleanser on it with warm water and scrub in a circular motion and it does the job of an exfoliant.

Now, what I need to do is find someone to repair a couple of afghans of mine that my mom made before she passed.

I am afraid to wash them right now. They are not in ill repair or anything like that.

They never had anything the matter with them til I moved in with my SO.. One of his twins sticks his toes or something through and the other one chews on the edge I am thinking.

So... one of the afghans has what looks like a hole in it where the yarn looks thinned out and may fray all the way.

the other one has where you can see the edge has come out. Like you can see four or five little hoops sticking up like it is unraveling....

What to do?

HA HA HA....I'm not good at it that's for sure....but I know I couldn't repair....but I also am looking for someone who can crochet. I want to find the instructions for the crocheted hats the little kids are wearing these days. They are made from a stretchy stuff...it almost looks like ribbon and then a flower barrett is placed on the hat and the little kids look like a movie star.

Tell me what the afghans look like, Pikantari. Are they made up of squares or continuous crocheting? Are they multi-colored? What colors?

The problem with repairing afghans is finding yarn that matches. It's easier to repair a mulit-colored one because the colors tend to blend.

I've been crocheting for about 38 years now, and make my own designs, like afghan stick blankets, afghan stick american flag, and large victorian dolls. And yes I am a man, but growing up in northern Maine, I had little to do, so my great aunt taught me. I crochet now, and just finished a queen afghan granny square. Multie coloered afghans are easy to repair, single colors are hard, just mended an afghan for my mother

I learned to crochet right out of college at my first job in Chicago. On breaks and lunch, of course.

The woman who taught me made me learn to read the instructions and if I came in with an item I was working on and it was wrong she would rip it all out and have me start again. I am so grateful to her.

Man, that was nearly 40 years ago.

I then taught my grandmother how to crochet.

I love it. I make a lot of baby clothes and, of course, lots of afghans. I never could grasp knitting but I took to crocheting like a duck takes to water.

I enjoy it very much, it gives me a chance to sit and relax.
Other than the count, your mind is able to concentrate and rest.
Made my own American Flag Afghan using the slip stitch afghan stitch, and counting the slip stitches it contains over 450,000 stitches (Queen)

I taught myself crochet when I was in between jobs roughly a decade ago. If you go to any arts & crafts store, like Michael's and such, go to the yarn section and you'll see plenty of crochet related books available. From basic instructional books to fancy pattern books. You can find similar books in any book store too (Barnes & Nobles, Borders, etc). I think I saw a book about crochet repair at B&N not long ago when I was browsing their crafts section.

One of them is a cream color double stitch zig zag (I think)

The other one has patterned squares of blue, green and cream but it is the simple stitching that outlines the afghan.

I have no idea what these kids did to these afghans. I am still using the same one my mom made me when I was little. WTH!

I miss my mom. I remember her making me this last afghan, she made it when she was dying from cancer.

The other one was one she made me for Christmas the year before. She made all of the kids (5) and all of the grand kids (9) afghans for Christmas gifts that year...

There is nothing wrong with the quality of the afghans, they have held up since 1999, which makes me think that they were purposely messed up..

If it is only the finish that is around the afghan that is damaged, you can easily remove it and replace it with a new one, without disturbing the main afghan, the zigzag one is a little more difficult.
If you were around my area, I would have you bring them to me, and I would repair them for you.
