Yes, it was a needed salary dump, but they basically had 7 or 8 guys they had to choose between and had the ability to keep 2. So yes they could have kept him but decided that other pieces were more vital than him.

Yep - nothing wrong with that .... it obviously worked out really well for them

but it doesn't make the 5 guys they couldn't keep bad options - just players they could no longer fit

I'm not the biggest fan of him (or nitty for that matter), but think it's a bit off to paint it as anything other than what it is (chicago fans being happy to get rid of him because he's terrible and is off to a bad start - sharks fans saying chicago is stupid for letting a stanley cup winning goalie go)

his abilities had very little to do with the actual decision and has been shown recently, most teams aren't putting high values on their goalies ..... with limited money to spend that's not the area that the bulk of teams are going to drop large cash .... there are a few elites, but after that the market has really come down

Great win for the Canes last night against the Islanders. Made up for those 2 shutout home losses by scoring 7 goals. Jon Matsumoto had 2 in just his 2nd game. Meanwhile Jeff Skinner continues to impress.

Nice win by the Canes over Isles last night. Caps jump out to a 3-1 lead over Toronto and just fell asleep allowing 3 goals in 3 minutes in the third, then they decide to play comeback to win 5-4 in SO. Not the way Boudreau would like to win.

Why do the Caps give me heart attacks??????

Up 3-0 again over the Bruins chasing the red-hot Tim Thomas out of the net, the Caps fall asleep again in the third allowing the Bruins to tie it before Fehr slaps one past Tukka Rask. Add in an Ovi EN and the Caps win 5-3.

My buddy is there and just sent me pics, Grrrrrrrrrr.

Any comments on the Hall of Fame inductions? I thought it was a weak class. I guess the HOF had someone force its hand to add a couple of Title 9 candidates. Cicarelli was a garbageman and I dont know the other guy.

Canes get another win, 7-1 against Edmonton. Jeff Skinner proving to show that bad seasons have upsides to them.

Caps win their 5th straight 5-3 over the Rangers at MSG. Laich with 2 goals including a EN.

I remember Cicarelli playing for the North Stars and the Caps, he was OK but got outshined by Gretzky and Lemieux.

I grew up with the North Stars and thought Ciccarelli was a one dimensional player...who liked to expose himself.

Panthers wiped the floor with Maple Leafs last night. I could not believe it. The Panthers are doing pretty good this season.
