SJ's first goal was worthless, as it was a STUPID play by Luongo, giving the puck away in front of an open net, . . . and Vancouver STILL climbed back from this devastating setback.
In reality the score should have been 3-1 or better in Vancouver's favor.
Neimi also gave the puck away for 1st goal. Sharks will need to win game 2.

Let's look at the stats:

Total SOG: 38-29 Canucks (not exactly dominating)
SOG in 3rd period when Sharks were "tired": 13-7 in favor of Canucks. (dominating?????)

Let's not forget that Thornton nearly scored in the first minute of the third period, I agree with McClelland's assessment that they were "tired" and they didn't skate as well as they should have but to claim they were dominated in the third is plain wrong. If the Canucks scored 4 goals and outshot the Sharks like 20-4 then your argument would hold water. Getting outshot by 6 in 20 minutes is not "dominated".

Do you define "dominating" only by the number of shots? I don't.

No, but I don't define 2 goals in 1:39 with one on a PP dominating either when the game could have gone either way.

If the Sharks coutinue to play like they did in the last two periods they are TOAST. Vancouver is going to keep keying in on the SJ defense and slaming them every time they touch the puck. Against Vancouver you have to clear the zone when you get the chance or else. It isn't my favorite style of hockey but Van cycles the puck better than any team I have seen. They wear you down, they recover the puck in the zone so many times and it's curtains for you if you play the majority of the game in your own zone.

Good points made. The NHL Network guys last night highlighted that a glaring weakness of the Sharks is lack of scoring in the third period, through 14 games the Sharks are being outscored 16-11.

Checking out the scoring stats showed in 5 of 14 games including last night the Sharks failed to score and in 8 games only managed 1 goal in the third period. The only game they scored more than once was the 4th game played against the Kings.

On some other forums I read the Sharks have a tendency to sit on leads going into the third. While I can't give an objective answer on that one, it is obvious that they can't play the same way in this series and need to get more goals in the third.

Shots on goal, time of possession, faceoffs, hits, goals scored....all the major stats favored the Canucks, most of the Sharks shots were from the outside, and Niemi looked ordinary when the game was on the line. If they want to progress they have some work to do.

Agree with that 100%. Sharks will not beat Canucks playing that way especially given their 3rd period lack of scoring prowess this playoff season.
