There is a strong rumor that the Islanders and former player Alexei Yashin have been talking about a potential return for him to the team. Right now based on his previous buyout, the Islanders are still paying him over $2 million per year towards the cap until 2014. I guess we will see soon how this plays out.
If he returns I'm done with this team. He has no heart, no desire to compete, and now he's too old. What other washed up player will be brought on board to get to the floor of the salary cap? At least the Panthers signed some guys who still had some gas left in the tank to try to get to their floor.
How about offering some picks to teams that are over budget? Rangers have to move some people, how about picking up Wolski for a late pick? At least he has a future and has the possibility of getting better. Yashin doesn't.
Buffalo has to get under the cap, make some offers.
We lose Konopka who could actually win some faceoffs but resign Gillies who can barely stand up on skates and get Marty Reasoner. Who the heck wants him? Konopka is probably better suited for the 3rd or 4th line than Marty, and Marty certainly isn't a 1 or 2 center. We lose Martineck who when healthy was a pretty consistent D man. This organization is a joke.
Since we go through D men like water, how about signing more of them to good 2 way contracts so we have more depth at Bridgeport. I'd like to see Campoli and Hillen as depth guys, so overpay them to get to the cap.
Wang really has no business owning a hockey team. I'm now thinking the Coliseum shouldn't get rebuilt and for the good of the game, the Isles get sold and move up to Canada.

On a short term deal it could be interesting. Yashin is motivated about coming back to the NHL and he feels that he has something to prove, which could be good for the Isles. We do have a knack for signing players that are really over the hill and should retire.

He's a terrible role model for the young kids and will take up a roster space that a young kid could use. He was a cancer in the locker room in Ottawa.
Its bad enough we traded Chara to get him, then we signed him to a long term deal which we were forced to buy out because he sucked so bad and his attitude was so bad, now we're going to pay him even more than his buyout money? INSANE!
I never thought we'd get a GM that would make Mad Mike Milbury look rational.

We had a good GM right before this but of course in Islander fashion, it lasted about a week or two.
Hunter needed to go. He's burnt out playing here for too long. Rolston is a quality guy, but are we gettting the Rolston who was waived twice by the Devils last year or a guy who got a second wind? Afterall he is 38 years old.
Looks like a better trade for Devils. They dumped Rolston's salary and got younger legs in return. We got a contract that brings us closer to the floor of the salary cap.

Rolston will be good for the Isles. Hunter the last few years seems to be prone to injury. Maybe Rolston will be a stepping stone for more names to come to the Island.
