I'm also in favor of a ban on fighting but I highly doubt it will happen in my lifetime - unfortunately.

It's barbaric and the sport can do without it. The NHL might even gain fans if a ban is ever put into effect.

Yes. Hockey is right down there with Pro Wrestling and Roller Derby.

We just witnessed a prime reason for fighting. Weber smashes Zetterberg's face into the glass, NHL doesn't suspend him but only fines him $2,500, which is chump change compared to his $7+ million dollar salary. Then they joke about it in practice, with "Webering going viral on the internet. It made perfect sense when Bert fought Weber. It wasn't much of a fight, but it was the right thing to do since the NHL doesn't take player safety seriously. Shanahan's a good guy, but he let us all down with that puny fine.

The NHL are already losing fans because of the lack of fighting.
They should get rid of the instigator and let the players police themselves and also bring back the rules from 15-20 years ago when hockey still was fun.

How is that? It wasn't that long ago that the NHL wasn't on NBC. And now it has expanded greatly with the NBC Sports Network.

As I mentioned in another thread the team I follow The Washington Capitals have sold out every game for over 3 seasons. I saw them play 3 times on the road this season in 3 different cities and every game also soldout.

We'll agree to disagree that fighting and brawls are "fun."

There are plenty of fans who have left because Gary Bettman has disneyfied the game and made it family friendly.

Well if fans wanted fighting, they got it, and on national TV no less. (Philly vs Pitts).

Fighting, hitting, and checking are now banned from the game?

The sport doesn't need the fighting. It is stupid, outdated, as well as barbaric. And it also slows down the game. A ban is way overdue.

I can't see how that is going to bring in more fans.

What an embarrassment. That whole series has been a major disappointment.
