Imagine that World War III starts tomorrow and a large number of hockey players in the NHL get drafted for military duty in their home countries, forcing several NHL teams to consolidate for a few years until the war is over. Would it make sense for the Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings to consolidate with each other and call themselves the Buffalo Wild Wings?

I have a feeling that if World War III starts, we will have more pressing problems than which hockey teams should consolidate to keep the NHL afloat ...

Yet that is exactly what happened during WWII, when the Steagles were formed.

And such things were deemed important by the government-
from wikipedia: "Feeling that country at war still needed entertainment and sports were a much-needed diversion, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an inspirational message focused on the importance of Major League Baseball to Americans' morale."

I'm well aware of that.

World War III is not going to be anything like World War II.

Since all three of those cities are hockey towns, I'd say they would not have a problem finding players. However, there are other locations where it might be a problem. Try combining Coyotes, Ducks, Kings, and Sharks to see what you get. There's also Hurricanes and Lightning, or Panthers and Predators to combine.
