I agree on both counts.
This is the big leagues, let them pay for a bit of exra travel.
and
Bettman should be impeached, arrested and locked up where he can do no more harm.
This is something I was thinking of today, why hasnt the NHL considered a 2-3-2 format for the SCFinals? The NBA does it. I wouldnt mind the NHL doing the same, and I'm sure the players wouldnt either. For those who dont know what im talking about, let me give you an example.
Detroit vs. Pittsburgh
Games 1,2 in Detroit
Games 3,4,5* in Pittsburgh
Games 6*,7* in Detroit
* means if neccesary
Is this something the NHL should consider?
I agree with what most of the others are saying... I like it the way it is and would rather not see the format change.
I like the current set up. I think NBA did it because it was LA and Boston in the finals and the travel costs were high. NHL should not follow the NBA.
The Edmonton Oilers benefitted from the 2-3-2 format in their 1984 and 1985 Stanley Cup victories over the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers. They split the first two games in New York and Philadelphia and then won all 3 games in Edmonton to win both Stanley Cups in 5 games.
No, I'm not a fan of 2-3-2. Keep it how it is and it's not really home ice advantage for the better record/seeded team if they have to play 3 straight road games...
I hated it in the NBA, and luckily they've gone back to the 2-2-1-1-1 format. You win 1 of the first 2 on the road you have a huge advantage; if you manage to win the first 2 on the road you've almost guaranteed yourself the series. Not fair for the higher seeded team. Plus, I know this is 10 years ago, but since it got bumped nobody mentioned this yet which is pretty important: game 5 of a best of 7 series is probably the second biggest game of the series (after game 7), especially when it is tied at 2-2; the lower seeded team should NEVER have home court or home ice advantage for that game, what's the point of playing 6 months of regular season games?? So, you could wind up with 20 more points than the team you are playing in the Stanley Cup finals, yet play on the road in game 5 of a 2-2 series?? How is that fair??
