This SUCKS. Why should Chicago get to host the winter classic after being a joke franchise for the past 15 years?? The game should have been in MICHIGAN - SPORTS CAPITAL OF PLANET EARTH - GREATEST FANS IN SPORTS HISTORY!!! Imagine 120,000 roaring as the Wings take the ice at the Big house in Ann Arbor.......and we get saddled with piddly little Wrigley Field??? Another genius stroke from Gary Bettman....what a moron of the first order.
Um, well, geez... lets think here. Which city is more attractive? Which venue is more attractive? Which city is more populated? And since you think the Hawks arent worthy of holding the event since theyve had bad luck for several years now, then the Wangs are also not worthy, noting their ultra-long losing streaks in the past.
How exactly is Michigan the sports capital of planet earth?
It's not. Though I would venture to say it's up there with some legends of sports though. And one would think we'd be happy as Wings fans because Chicago isn't that far of a drive.
I wouldn't think so as the game is scheduled for new years day, which will be on a thursday. Not your typical NFL game day.
I didn't check what day 1/1/09 is. The NFL sometimes have Thurs. night football (besides the obvious day of Thanksgiving Day), but usually not that late into the season. Maybe the NHL thought Soldier Field would be too big (a.k.a. too many empty seats), but that Wrigley Field could be sold out?

Soldier Field would be sold out, too, no doubt. Theyre probably holding it at Wrigley since its much more historical, lends a good vibe to the whole game. Soldier Field is newly revamped, quite ugly, not as special. I think the NHL did a good job on picking the locale.
