It's totally crazy. Sort of like having two baseball teams in the same city.
No, thats cool only as long as the two teams have been there since the beginning of time, like the Sox and Cubs. But plopping an expansion team down right smack dab in the middle of a hardcore Leaf city is a dumb idea. The new teams' market share will be virtually non-existant.
This is the sort of thing that happens when television starts dictating policy to the league. Don't you think there are hardcore hockey fans in places like Quebec City and Winnipeg? They don't have NHL teams any more because they're not "big market" enough--they can't satisfy television's craving for ratings. You would think that putting another team in Toronto is a recipe for disaster, and you would be joined in this thought by an awful lot of people. Except for television executives.

There is also the line of thinking that since Leaf tickets are exhorbitant and almost impossible to get, a new team would pack 'em in.

Well, if Leaf tickets are that hard to get, put the other team in Hamilton. Then you would have about 6 to 7 millon people within an hour drive. That would make a little sense.
I think I'd put a team in Winnipeg or Quebec before Toronto, if they could get new arenas. 2 more expansion teams, one in the US, one in Canada.
Yes, but apparently/unfortunately it’s about 2 or 3,000 seats too small for the NHL. It seats about 15,000 if I recall. Plus where they’ve located it (right downtown on a narrow lot) there is little possibility for expansion.

Like the NY Jets, NY Mets, or the Islanders, or the Devils or the Ducks.....
It would be good to have another team in Canada but it'd be stupid putting it in Toronto. Almost everyone from Toronto who is a hockey fan is an ardent Leafs supporter so they wouldn't have a fan base. If they're going to put another team in Canada it should go to Winnipeg or Quebec, where hockey should never have left in the first place.
