Um.... the best players from NY are from downstate.

Ever heard of Joe Mullen? Mathieu Schneider maybe?

Youre also grossly underestimating the number from not only NYC but LI. Upstate doesnt account for the majority of NYers in the NHL.

Also, the answer to the main question is MINNESOTA.

They have nearly 100 more NHLers than the next closest state.

Michigan has three universities in the top 10 NHL colleges... Though Minnesota is number two Michigan has Michigan Tech. 6, Michigan State 3, and Michigan 1. Michigan also has their very own AAA division (Detroit Division) in the Midwest Elite program which is the premier program in amateur hockey.

It's actually closer to 5 Million. And M-SP itself is about the size of Boston if you put the two cities together.

MN is by far the best when it comes to hockey in the US. This is a fact.

Surprised Illinois isn't up there.. or shouldn't I be? Since Chicago was an original 6 team and all.

Yea but having an nhl team is not related at all to how big hockey is in an area. Minnesota didn't have an original six team but is still the undisputed hockey capitol of the country. If anyone has a problem with that, you can come back and talk when your state has a fifty year history of selling out 19,000 seat arenas for high school games with waiting lists for tickets years in advance.

How'd you guys lose the North Stars in the first place by the way? Was it arena issues?

Basically. St. Paul and Minneapolis both refused to finance a new arena and then the dick owner got caught in a cheating scandal so he decided to move to save his face. The guy is still reviled in MN and would get torn apart if he ever came anywhere near the state ever again.
