Shark fans
Curious as to what you think about the Sharks off season moves... or lack there of.
Lost Grier, Goc, Moen, Lemieux (expected), Plihal (not a big loss in my opinion), Kasper (see Plihal), and acquired Scott Nichol.
Think they are better team entering this season or have they taken a step back?
Personally, I'm not encouraged but I'm hoping for the best.

i think they went for broke last year and now have to pay the piper so to speak
they are getting squeezed a little bit with the cap
they lost a lot of guys down the line who I liked (especially Goc & Plihal), but when you look at how those lines struggled when it mattered then maybe it's not all that bad
i think my main concern isn't losing those guys, but who comes in ...... hopefully some of the young cheap guys can make contributions this year
they still have some pretty big holes to fill though
it would be nice if they could win the Gustavsson derby
it is frustrating just waiting for DW to make his moves though .... still a lot of time until they start lacing them up again

I think they're hoping for addition by subtraction. A lot of those guys were technically sound and fit McLellan's tactics but nobody really upped their game for the playoffs.
As for Gustavsson, isn't his deal in Toronto final yet? I haven't heard anything since.

The San Jose Mercury News reported today that the Sharks and Dany Heatley may be heading to an agreement. The article linked below has more detail.
Purdy: Heatley heats up Sharks' trade rumors - San Jose Mercury News
I'd be willing to trade Michalek, Ehrhoff... and maybe some draft choices or prospects for him. Maybe that's not enough....
Thoughts?

Reason: changed Heatly to Heatley

JR Retirement
The San Jose Mercury News reported today that JR will announce his retirement Thursday.
I'll miss him, but I suppose it's time.

Mike Grier signed with Buffalo.
I liked him... hope he has a lot of success with Buffalo... except of course, when the Sabres play the Penguins or Sharks.
Best of luck to him...

Grier was a great defensive forward...with zero offensive ability.

He was good on the penalty kill... and somehow or other it seemed like he would break away short handed a lot. But, pretty much of a straight ahead skater. No moves from what I could tell.
But I think he'll be a plus for Buffalo.
