Yes....Miller is one of the best and he proved it again tonight......however, that being said don't underestimate Leighton......he has played VERY well for the Flyers and if I were Flyer GM I'd make Leighton my playoff goaltender and start getting him ready down the stretch NOW. Every year it seems we have a playoff goaltender controversary. In my estimation Leighton has taken over the #1 spot and he should be the man the rest of the way. If his play continues to shine I'd sign him as my #1 which we can probably do for a few years cheaply and look for a cheap backup. This guy is young as golatenders go as they take years to develop and is just hitting his stride now. He could be the answer to all our goaltending problems for years to come.

That U.S. Victory was actually pretty significant in terms of a potential path to the chance to get to the medal round.

All 12 teams will advance but the top 4 get byes through the next round and I think the worse the U.S. could be is the #2 (out of 12) seed at this point.
If Finland wins vs Sweden later tonight, we are #2.
If Sweden wins by less than 5 goals we are #1 * if they win by 5 it gets confusing * if they win by 6 we are #2.
If Finland/Sweden game goes to OT we are #1.

I believe that as either #1 or #2, the highest seed team we would play in the Quarter Finals is the 7th best team - right now that would be Slovakia tho the other lower seeded teams drop off quite a bit in talent from there.

So, it's a pretty good bet that the U.S. will advance past the Quarters and into the semi's. Meanwhile Canada as the 6th (?) seed seems to be heading for a Quarter Final match with Russia once they get past 11th seed Germany. Good news in that Russia and Canada will have to play just to reach the Semi Finals.

I think.

Team USA wanted it more. The empty net goal was an example of that. That was a big goal that should not have happened. I only saw the third period, but the USA team sure looked on fire to me. Canada seemed dead until the last 5 minutes. I missed 1st and 2nd periods so can't comment on that.

Sweden dominated Finland. I never expected that! I stayed up to watch it. Why does my head hurt now?

So if we get to the medal round (I'm not sure we will go 14 karat) don't you think that will be a boost for hockey popularity in the states? I mean a ton of people are watching the games this year.

EDIT; Wow, they didn't show this game on NBC? I mean sure it's hockey but it's US vs. Canada, plus no one really watches any of these other sports outside of the olympics. Man, what a drop of the ball.

Maybe a slight bump, and that could be short-lived. Even after Miracle on Ice, hockey was still a niche sport in the U.S., although it did seem to lead more NHL teams to take American players seriously.
