I have a great wool rug with a heavy burlap-like backing that was stored in a hot attic too long. The upper surface is OK but when used on my wood floor the rug leaves a wax-like substance that has seemingly melted through the backing. What can I either place beneath the rug to protect the floor or attach to the underside?
