After much delays and indecisions, we settled on a near white 24 x 24 porcelain tile for our kitchen. We are going to pick the tiles up today.
My question is should I lay the tiles straight or with a diagonal pattern? How about a hopscotch pattern? My number one concern with diagonal pattern or hopscotch pattern is that I don't have the skills to lay them nicely because I think those patterns are much more difficult to lay.
My uncle thinks that I should lay the tiles straight because he said my ceiling is already slanted and the corner where the fireplace is angled so I don't want any more diagonal lines in the two rooms. Do you agree with him?
btw, laying straight isn't easier than hopscotch because you will always have four tiles that need to meet perfectly in a corner with a straight pattern.
I think diagonal would be perfect for your room. If you don't dare to lay diagonally, do hopscotch because it will hide your mistakes.
Thanks for your input. Now I feeel confident going with the diagonal pattern. I think it is not very difficult if I take my time. Hopefully I will be done in two to three weeks. I bought 20% extra tile just in case.
How do you like the green 4 x 4 accent tiles? Do you think it is a good idea? They match my green walls.
It is just an idea right now. We have the 24 x 24 tiles already but won't start until Thursday. We haven't bought the green tiles yet. May be the accent tiles can also be black?
Thanks,

I don't think black diamonds will look good with your fireplace.
Furthermore, once you get your table and other furniture in the room, you'll only be able to see just a few diamonds---so it's best to avoid the sparcely scattered dimonds.
btw, are you keeping the kitchen counter?
