Brown leather sofa, blue and white plaid chair, coastal sensibility, can I pull it off?
I'm a design student (pursuing a 2nd career). I can solve huge problems with dazzling designs in anyone's space but my own! In my own house, I'm lost lost lost.
I'm slowly pulling together my living space. I've got a casual coastal style, but NOT kitsch! I dread shabby chic. I'm traditional, casual and give a nod to contemporary without actually going there. I am from the Nantucket area, thus my taste runs in that direction.
I'm have a blue and white over-sized plaid rocker (print attached). I have a white cocktail table (attached), who's color I can change and a 2nd occasional chair in white and the entertainment console is white. So plenty of white already!
I'd like to add a leather sofa. It will wear better than a slip covered piece, and is easier to maintain with pet hair. The sofa I selected is dark brown leather, extremely neutral, neither a cool or warm cast to it. I would accent it with pops of a deep mauve/red and a darker blue than I have in the chair.
Can I pull it off? I fear it will look jarring next to a light colored cocktail table and other furnishings.

Yes, you can pull it off, the key is to put a few other things in the room that are of the same color and hue intensity as the sofa.
Doesnt have to be anything huge, it could be accessories, a few things in different areas of the room will tie the sofa into the room.
Look at the color of the sofa as if it were part of your color scheme.
