Remo Velvet Living Room Furniture Sets & Pieces - furniture - Macy's

Yeah, I think I liked it more in some of the room pictures Macy's had it in then actually with my own furniture.

I guess I also think a classic brown leather chair would be more practical for when I decide to replace these couches as I will probably go with a neutral color again.

I always tell my design clients to keep the big, pricey stuff in a neutral.
That way, when they want to do something else, its a lot easier than when you're locked into a particular color scheme or style.
Oh Lord, I wouldnt do velvet, dog hair sticks to it like glue!

Oh no, I wasn't considering velvet. I was just referring to the way they had the printed chair in the picture with couches similar to mine .

Very good advice on keeping the big pieces neutral. I much rather throw color into the room with pillows, rugs and curtains. Next time though, I will not go with this shade of taupe. Probably more of a true tan or beige. I just feel like they are much easier to match (for me anyway).

You already know more than you think you do about design!

HA! I'm trying to learn. It surely doesn't come naturally though. My son is a graphic designer (sure didn't get his creative genes from me). I envy people that can just pull it all together with so much ease.

So does anyone think burgundy would also go with the taupe couches? I like the idea of brown as much more basic and neutral but my husband thinks burgundy would look better. I would love some opinions.TIA

No, burgundy locks you into a color scheme, and its passe.
Remember hunter green and burgundy?
Tell hubby an experienced interior designer said that.

Burgundy would be fine with your color scheme. It is not passe' even though I am not an 'experienced" designer. Sure, if you do the hunter/burgundy thing but go to any real decorating store and EVERY color is out there. It won't lock you into any color scheme any more then a brown leather recliner will. You won't have hunter/burgundy, you will have tan/burgundy which is actually quite popular these days.

It really comes down to finding something you like and that is what really matters. Just keep looking, something WILL pop out at you and you will know it is right.

I know that the bolded was a swipe at me, why do you do that?
I would really like to know the answer.
Burgundy is not an in color right now, and probably wont be for the next decade.
Like anything else, colors are cyclical.
Go to any furniture store or fabric store and see just how many swatches you see in burgundy.
Not many.

I had a real nice taupe leather sofa, on the grey side, and put a huge red real suede chair with it, but it wasn't burgundy, it was more on the pink side of red. Dusty red maybe. looked great. Put a cream color long hair sheepskin in the red chair. Walls were matching the sofa in Venetian plaster. Modern design hand made Iranian rug called "Clouds" with all of the colors of the room in it plus black and sky blue. typing it out, its sounds horrible but it was pretty nice. I'll see if I have a photo and come back and edit this.
