I like the coffee table, IF it ends up being the right size for whatever space you use it in. I think you need to prioritize how you will furnish your room. Start with something on the fireplace wall if that is where you are going to put your tv. That should be the first piece you buy. Then you need to get a new couch/chairs/seating for that area. Then whatever you are going to add at the other end of the room by the built in's. THEN worry about coffee tables, rugs, curtains, etc. on the windows. If you buy the coffee table and it ends up being too small or too big for the space, it will get relegated to the den .

I would forget looking at ANYTHING else until you pick a piece for your audio equipment, preferably ONE large piece that holds everything--or a custom made deal like we talked about before.

I've already picked out the piece for my audio equipment - this should be delivered tomorrow:

ethanallen.com - tango door chest | ethan allen | furniture | interior design

And I have the matching smaller chest that I am going to bring into the living room to see if it will work with my tv.

ethanallen.com - tango single chest | ethan allen | furniture | interior design (but in the same white as the audio cabinet)

These are not going against the fireplace - the media stand I have there right now is going to move to the den. I haven't decided what to do with the fireplace area yet, but these are going to go on the wall where those horrible bookcases are right now.

for the time being my big cushy brown recliner will go in the nook where the fireplace is - I know that I need a desk area for my imac in the living room, so I may want to put the small desk I need to purchase in that area, the other desk is going to go into the den as its permanent home.

I can't afford to replace my couch just yet, so I need to l live with what I have while I focus on the other pieces.

I'm also not 100% confirmed on even keeping the tv in the living room - I lived very nicely before with having my tv in the spare room, and just my audio equipment in the living room. I may go back to doing that, that's all still to be decided based on how the room ends up laying out.

She already bought the tall white chest/cabinet for her audio equipment. That's done. That's why she is attracted to this coffee table.

I think the coffee table is a keeper. But I agree that your next focus should be on the sofa and chairs before anything else.

Just want to confirm, is the beige couch really horrible with everything else being white based? Is there a specific color or printed type of couch that I should focus on?

It really kills me to get rid of this couch - its not that old, and is barely used.

The existing sofa is too modern for what you're trying to do. It's less the color/print than the style of the sofa.

Since you need a different style of sofa, you have the added benefit of picking a great fabric.

The sofa really is the key piece in an living room/family room simply because it takes up so much space.

It's important to get that right.

Could you recommend a sofa style, based in the direction I am heading? I will also ask the same question to the Ethan Allen design specialist when she does my in home visit.

Ethan Allan's Madison 85" sofa is a good choice:

It's a nice blend between traditional and contemporary.

I'll look for others. Basically you want a more traditional sofa but with cleaner lines than a sofa that has a skirt.

Basically, you want to stay away from modern designs that have those extra pillows sewn to the arms and back like your existing sofa.

You can go slightly contemporary but you need clean lines and leaning towards traditional. The madison does that.

That's just a quick example of one style that would work. And, of course, you won't be ordering your sofa in white.

I appreciate the suggestion, I'm going to start looking for sofas that will match this overall feel that I'm going for. This is a lot for me to think about, I've never thought of sofas as having a particular style before.

Regarding the sage green - this is the MB Dry Sage Green, I took two photos. One is in the natural light of my living room, and the other is under the recessed lighting. Any thoughts? I kind of like it, but i'm concerned that the color may be a little too dark.

My walls are texturized, so I don't know if that is making a difference or not.
