New Home Office - Mixing Furniture Styles?
Hi, I'm a graphic designer, artist, photographer and I'm putting together a new office and I found this architects desk that I like (pic below). Now i need a simple desk for my computer (large monitor, keyboard, drawing tablet, laptop, backup drive). What would you do being that there isn't a desk that goes with this architect table as part of a "collection"? Do I need to find something that is as close as possible in wood type and color, something completely different, what????
I will also have a large wood easel in the room that also doesn't match the table below, but it will be on the other side of the room. I'd like to have the architect table and computer desk right next to each other in a sort of L configuration.
Thoughts?

Nice architects table. I love it! How are you planning to layout the floorplan? Will this table be next to your desk or on a different wall?

I was thinking of having the architect table facing the wall, with the yet-to-be-found desk sticking out into the room perpendicular (and fairly close) to the architect table, forming a sort of L configuration. The un-matching easel will be across the room facing a corner.

To me, this architect's desk is a very clean and simple style. I'd look for something in a similarly clean and simple style for your computer.
If you don't find one you like with wood that matches, I'd go for a completely different color like black, green, or whatever you like. But that's just me! I'm not a designer, but just another forum reader.

This! I agree. I wouldn't try to "kind of" match a finish if they will be near each other in the room. You can get away with this a little more if there is some real space between them.
Otherwise, yeah, go for a contrast, e.g. an antique white desk or some sort of color or a completely different finish such as a natural wood tone or a something very light, or black. |
