You can go to a Celtic or Scots/Irish type clothing store (I know it's French, but it's also a royal castle thing), they may have some brushed silver or pewter tie tacks or lapel pins that are shaped in that pattern, and you can just glue those onto the tiles. A machine shop could cut off the screws on those ones you saw, too, and then you can glue same way.
If you want the screws sliced off don't bother the guys at a machine shop. They will laugh at you. Try a hacksaw or Dremel tool. Of course that will still leave you with a dirt catching nightmare of glue-on hobby store ugliness, but maybe I just value a clean kitchen too much...

That was exactly what I was thinking but if they just went to contract she will have a million other things that she "needs" to do. I see the backsplash as a down the road project. But for a quick pick me up I think she was looking for suggestions.
You are exactly right. We are considering this our "forever" home (at least the next 15-20 years), so we have some projects already in mind, and if I start taking out backsplash, I'm very likely to find other "projects" that really could wait.
The type of "fleur de lis" show would be a poor choice to create "accents" in an already finished tile backsplash. Even if you could get it to stay adhered it would be a MAGNET for kitchen messes, quickly attracting greasy dusty gunk...
Especially since this otherwise attractive kitchen appears to have NO EXHAUST HOOD and a cooktop plunked down IN FRONT OF A WINDOW the thought of how big a mess such an intricat piece might soon become gives me the heebie-jeebies. YUCK!
I think down the road, when you decide what you are going to do once all the wallpaper is yanked out, you will likely have years to think about giving the backsplash a little more zip...
Isn't that interesting - no exhaust hood? Must be the thing in this area because most of the homes we saw had this same layout. My husband would like to add one down the road; we'll just have to work with the window somehow. Will add a nice pop, I think, especially if we integrate other stainless appliances.
Okay, so I have ideas/opinions on the pewter fleur de lis, and thank you so much for that feedback. How about stenciling? Maybe in black or a pewter color? What do you guys think - is it tacky or a good idea?

It's a GE downdraft cooktop. Not telescopic. I used to sell GE Appliances - I like your style. We'll update to a traditional cooktop and add the vent-a-hood down the road for a style update. Appliances will need replacing in about 5 years (my guess). I would like to update the backsplash with an easy fix sooner...
