I sold appliances, too, while I was learning my trade.

Why dont you wait till after you paint. Once you do the walls you may find you like the backsplash fine as it is now.

Personally I like a plain backsplash as a backdrop for my "stuff".
Even if you dont like a lot of things on your counter a few well placed things could add the spice youre looking for without redoing the backsplash.

I would probably just leave it. You could use something else decorative in front of the back splash (like a beautiful vase, or plate on a stand, etc). I'm afraid that if you start messing with it and trying to add to it, you may end up with a tacky look instead of what you're going for. Your kitchen is really nice.

I like the way the fridge is set in and against the wall, that to me is a big plus, as I hate with a passion fridges, they are the ugliest thing in the house.

But what I don't understand is why on earth would the builder have designed a kitchen with a stove under the window.??? Did the builder ever think maybe someone would hang curtains and catch fire?, or if the window is open, doesn't mean the heat will get exhausted, but maybe the wind will blow in. This to me doesnt seem like a good design feature....................
