I have a kitchen with similar colours to yours. My walls are a buttery yellow, counter-top is a speckly grey colour, appliances are white and I painted the cupboards creamy off white. I had plain-front melamine cupboards. I added flat trim to make them looks like shaker cupboards and painted with 2 coats of Benjamin Moore melamine paint. I changed my cupboard handles to a brushed nickle. They've been like that for 11 years. It made me laugh that somebody mentioned, earlier in the thread, that shaker-style is considered up-to-date. I must have been ahead of my time

I couldn't agree more. Unless there's some compelling reason to go with hardwood, keeping in mind hardwood is always iffy at best in kitchens, I'd divert that money to the cabinets. Or to the counter tops, although imo the counter tops look fine.
