I'd replace the flooring before I replaced the counters....the floor dominates the space and not in a good way. Replace the floor and then determine paint color...you will be limited in what paint colors will look good if you keep the flooring. I am with you on the stainless steel - I love the look. The first thing I did when we moved into our current house was to get rid of the almost new white appliances and replace them with stainless.

Stainless is a breeze to clean - all you need is a spray bottle of water and a good quality microfiber cloth - no polish or cleaner - seriously water and microfiber will make stainless appliances look great in seconds.

Others have mentioned not to use laminate in the kitchen because of wetness. Is this so?

what color is the tile on the floor? You may want to change the grout color to a lighter color if you like the tile. It is pretty easy to dye the grout but time consuming.

Absolutely, if you like stainless, get it. I always find it humorous to read what's "in" and what's "out." Who cares, if I like it? I'm the one who has to live there.

My only concern with stainless would be I'm not sure how it will go with your cabinet color? I think black appliances would go beautifully with those light-colored cabinets (if I'm seeing their finish correctly), but stainless may clash. (Or am I the only one who thinks that might be the case?)

Definitely (and maybe defiantly ) keep the tile for the floor. It looks neutral and you don't have to worry about leaks ruining it.

RE: colors, I love sage green. At my last house, the main part of the house -- living room, dining area, hall -- was a very pale sage green. When I remodeled the kitchen 3 years ago, I painted it a deep, dark pumpkin orange. It looked beautiful with the sage.

Good luck with your new house! Enjoy it!!

I really am not a fan of the pickled oak cabinets. Ive been researching painting/staining them for a while and I think I might give it a try. I know its time consuming and a lot of work, but I work from home so I have the time to put in.

Any cabinet color thoughts to go with stainless steel appliances and the current floor?

If you are sure you are going to get stainless appliances, and it sounds like you are, maybe buy them first, then paint a few cabinet doors different shades? (Just like trying out paint colors on your walls.) I think just about any dark-ish finish would go very nicely with stainless appliances.
