I've got a few suggestions that may or may not work for you, not knowing exactly your situation. But ...
To me, a luxurious bed has a duvet on it. I know you're in a warmer climate, but if you get a light one, and a duvet cover in a style you like ... to me, that's an inviting bed. And mattress preference is very personal ... but another thing I love is a feather mattress. It feels like sleeping in a cloud, between the two.
My favorite catalog for duvet covers, sheets, etc. is The Company Store. It's not cheap, but it's great quality. And I've always been impressed with the masculine appropriate qualities of a lot of their stuff (though I'm female). I think their design sense is great, too. And approximating some of their designs might give you direction, too.
I would try to match the comforter only because you want it to be calm. Maybe the comforter link has curtains to match.
Red is a very energetic color, it won't help you sleep at all. My advice is stay in one color with white. Or you will end up looking like a flag, red, white and blue, which is fine but doesn't make a calm room and I thought that was the goal.

Ah, yes, I see your point. Yes, calm is the goal. I just thought if I could not match the bedcover in color then I'd use a contrasting color.

I had a duvet cover; it drove me nuts, never again. It works for some, but for me the inner comforter shifted, I tacked it and it still shifted.
I still think you should just do the all solid Navy Blue and get the rug with a pattern in white on a Navy Blue background. Try and get a white or black bed if you can return yours. The trunk is great, and the other lamps are great too. The Cutty picture would be nice as well. The photographer you picked out is nice too, but I would steer clear of the pink skies and go towards the black and white he offers, they are really nice.
I don't think soft blues and cottage is very masculine for you.
The attached photo shows what I came up with; this is not final, but I think I am moving in the right direction.
I wish the curtains were the same shade of blue. I like these because of the strip; I will take another look at the ones you suggested.
I think you did a great job pulling those items together. I love the curtains you picked. The strip is fantastic.
The blue color is the same shade as the drapes Kayekaye picked so it shouldn't matter that they're not a perfect match.
I definitely like the drapes you picked the best!
Thank you for your help on this.
I need to be more blunt with the lady who sold me the yellow bed and see if we can work out an exchange; she has a breakfast table that has a compass in wood inlay that I like.
Yay! Great job! The small amonts of red will be fine.
Thank you very much for you help and guidance.
I can get the bedroom furniture in solid maple, pine, or oak; I like maple. I can have it painted or stained. At first I wanted it painted white or antique white. I decided that stain will be best, then when I change the decor, the wood will match with anything. I am thinking a natural stain would be fine.
