I've seen some really beautiful homes that combine some rustic elements into a contemporary exterior and interior design, and I really like the idea. What do you think about these floors integrated into a more contemporary home?
Let's pretend that the exterior home looks something like this (I wish).
Both things have sparseness in common. Do you think that folks who had to carve out their necessities in the wilderness had any frou frou? Nope. Spare, clean design is a feature the two styles share.
The average pine floor is prone to being easily scratched / dented. It is considerably less resistant to damage than more traditional flooring from hardwoods like oak, maple, teak, cherry, walnut or hickory. Even harder are the tropical hardwoods or bamboo.
Folks that like a "rustic contemporary" look also tend to dislike the wear marks that regular foot traffic can cause with softwood and if their lifestyle includes pets or kids that routinely move inside and out with bits of sand / gravel on their feet the scratching / dents accumulate fast...
