Contractor should be coming by today to sign our final contract and then we submit our paperwork. So that means we could finally be starting the bathroom next week after approval. That is, of course, if our vanity finally arrives on the FOURTH ATTEMPT neither broken nor actually mislabeled. Sigh.

BUT my dad did come by yesterday and we finally built my "custom closet" design. Yay. It just needs the finishing touches and then I'll post the pictures.

Hoping my dad can come by next week to work on the shelving I need built into the closets because then my life will be WAY MORE ORGANIZED and less crazy. (Apartment looks horrible right now---no where to work, no where to store things---BLECH.)

My wife and I decided to redo the downstairs half bath. Sorry the pictures suck, but with it being a half bath, it is tough getting good shots.

When we bought the house, the bathroom was painted this deep orange color. The color itself isn't bad, just not in a bathroom. It made the room feel smaller than what it really was. All the fixtures (towel holder, TP holder, and light fixture) were the oil rubbed bronze and the faucet was builders grade.

We decided to paint the room white and go with a black and white theme. We replaced the fixtures with chrome and we also replaced the faucet with a retro chrome look. My wife took down the orange roman shade and tore it apart. She bought the black and white fabric and she made a new shade with the new fabric. We then added a new light fixture which has a mixture of chrome and white.

The final stage we need to complete is the tile. 18" tile should not be in a bathroom this small. We are going to rip it up and give the room a black border using black subway tiles and then a mixture of black and white tiles in the middle. No clue when we will be able to do this since I've never tiled in my life.

What do you all think so far?

Repainting kitchen cabinets, a job I can only face once every 10 years.

I think this is going to be our next big project. I've read a lot of tutorials and they all make it sound simple, but simple is never really how it goes. Let me know how this goes for you.

I like the large format tiles. Plus less grout to clean - bonus!

Wow, it's a completely different look! I liked it orange but I also like what you're doing with it.

The only "constructive criticism" I have is that if I were you I'd definitely lower that picture that's hanging over the toilet - or add another one beneath it!

Thanks. The picture makes it look way up there, but it is actually face level.

After being in our home for 4 years now I actually made a curtain for the guest bedroom. Just one though for the big window and I am going to work on getting two curtains done and put up tomorrow for the other windows that are at the ceiling but on the back porch side of the house. This means the light on the back porch goes directly into the guest bedroom which can be an issue if one is trying to sleep.

I can see how the orange might have seemed a bit close, since my windowless laundry room was once that color. Right now it seems a bit sterile to me, and the picture is hung too high. Are you planning on having any color?
