P. S. For place mats, I tend to lean white and soft able to roll up so it's easy to bleach and easier for storage.
I also like to use bamboo chopping block as both plates n placemats for those BBQ times.
And brown construction paper rolls for those casual gatherings for crabs and more BBQ messy stuff.

You can always take out the tablecloth or placemats after dinner. I think protective covering during a meal is essential, even if the table surface is forgiving like glass. I would never place red wine or a hot pan on a natural (even engineered) stone slab counter without a coaster or trivet, so why wouldn't I treat a dining table the same? We have a midcentury glass dining table that is very familiar with placemats. We don't use tablecoths because we like the graphic nature of the pedestal and like to look at it during a meal.

Exactly.. Why I have both.
And I can play with anytime I want, and layer or change up according to company, meal theme, or anything anytime for the matter. More choices, more freedom.

More pics on pg 5 for example.

I also have a pretty big collection of plate styles, utensils, glass wares etc..
Different foods, different themes, different settings.
